What if those advertisements are inside the game data or the firmware itself and are internet independent?
I really hope this happens either way, it will mean the death of Sony in video gaming and finally companies will witness that they shouldn't mess with costumers. It's inevitable that one of the most hated companies (Sony, EA etc) will make a very unfortunate move and they will face a titanic-sized-huge anger result that won't get compared to nothing with the PSN outage or whatever. Costumers are ready-to-explode-ticking-bombs and some companies do their best to make them explode and they have no clue that in some cases it could even mean the end of their existance in the market...

Major things that caused uproar, but things the majority soon forgot, this will be the same with this, people will moan, but they will get over and accept.

Sony could also set up a premium add on that will get rid of ad`s.

If they do it, it may be something like free apps.
Maybe a free or discounted game but with ads. In my opinion this wouldnt be bad for people who cant afford games. As long as they keep an option for full price no ad games.
