Dont really wanna get involved.. but I have actually heard downgrade without HW is possible.. HW being E3 or ProgSkeet.

If you try to learn a bit more you should know that there are syscalls that can do dumping and writing of any device on the GameOS or HV.

possibly. you'd risk going to their firmware and then never being able to get out of it.
