Last week, George Hotz had an interview with Wired where he expressed his
interest in returning to the PS3 scene but he unable to because of legal concerns..



Geohot, while had some bitter times last year, he certainly did some awesome work in bringing up the first real custom firmware that actually unlocks the homebrew capabilities.
So, while he may not touched his PS3 since the legal settlement with Sony in April 2011, he obviously a perfect bet to knock that 4.11 firmware out to the masses. That should rings good news for those who refuse to buy DRM-locked dongles after the disappointment with how prominent developers leaving the scene.
Now, for that to happen, our best guess is to wait until the authority to hear EFF's proposal out which to make videogame consoles jailbreak legal. Unless someone in the PS3 scene had political connection with the upstairs, we may not see any decision later this year.
Since we never had an updated custom firmware (without dongles) for over a year now, i think that may not be that long, right?

Jailbreaking a console should be as legal as a cell phone. There are people who want it for legit purposes. Emulators, Linux, XBMC, and etc. The whole mess with Geohot has left a lot of people afraid to even touch the PS3, let alone look at it.

For Geohot to come back would be asking for trouble. Considering his nature it wouldn't be too unsurprising.

Nothing here... geohot only cares for his ego... if it is time to stroke it, I doubt he will care about his little restriction order from the ps3.

I say go for it. I won't lose any sleep over how big or small his ego is. If he wants to help the scene I could care less for his motivation. Which is clearly not the same motivation as the developers of say...tb. I'm not going to hate on his success or be happy if he has any lack thereof. Doesn't make a difference in my life one way or the other. I just want my PS3 busted open again.

i hope geohot comes back to the ps3 scene....he has skills and also shares his findings...and i don´t understand people who are against him because of his ego or such things....they are just envious... he has done a lot and after suing he also do right to step back from jailbreaking the ps3... the real life to safe (and we got just one life) is alot more important then support a scene with ungratefull people who think a (virtual scene) is more iimportand then a real life...

just my opinion ...

I am not envious of a bastard who stole the work of failoverflow and claimed it as his own.

Him giving up his case with Sony is what really helped us get in this situation by giving sony a precedent to use against devs that actually contributed to this scene. I.e. graf who is still getting sony' wrath in German court.

he stole the work from failoverflow who presented the whole world how to jailbreak the ps3 ? I dont think so Failoverflow finds the way and shares it with all Geohot works with the shared info and brought us a jailbreak in my eyes is this what we all want..good developers who share infos and maybe other good developers who work with the findings....

and what you got if your in jail because of jailbreaking a ps3 and all scene people look up to you ? nothing ! i just want to say that he was on a point who he must decide and he stands on much pressure and does the only right thing he choose his life and this is right....

He should move to some country that doesnt have contract with USA, and live from donations, and keep up the good work
