Doom 3 on PS3 a reality?

A few months back we had an article posted that had said Doom 3 had gone Open Source. With this people started to marvel and drool over the possibility of a Doom 3 port for PS3 and even the 360, but we realized that no company would probably care enough. If Doom 3 was going open source it would be because id software probably deemed the game too old to be a cash cow. By the way, it is speculated that Doom 4 is in production but details are scarce. Anyway, since Doom 3 was open source we entertained the idea of a scene dev or otherwise gifted programmer to take on the responsibility that Doom 3 be brought to current gen, but this was more of an "I wish" it seemed. Luckily, id knows we want Doom 3. Interestingly, Bethesda has involvement in this project. Doom 3 BFG Edition has been announced, and it includes upscaled visuals, trophy/achievement support and is proposed to have the original Doom 1 and 2 to name a few perks. A PC re-release will accompany the 360 and PS3 release. No news on wether this is a digital release (PSN/XBLA) or physical release. To recap, the original release was PC and Xbox original.

PS I have no idea what they're getting at with BFG edition, don't care though as long as I get my Doom 3.

I remember playing it when it came out on my brothers PC, which was as good as you could get at the time. 19" monitor sitting in the dark with headphones on - $hitting myself!

That was 8 years ago. Man, I feel old

I remember ramming the gfx down to absolute-bare-minimum in frustration at not having a great GFX card once and thinking it looked a hell of a lot like goldeneye when bump mapping was disabled too. :P

They said this was going to be the last Doom game on G4TV when it was coming out, haha. I remember how the hosts were talking about how scary it was, and how the were praising the graphics. I think it was even nominated for best graphics at Gphoria.

Damn. I got this game for 5 bucks I THINK from a kid that went to my school. I can't remember. Anyways, good game...

BFG = Big F*cking Gun which was in the movie
This edition could possibly mean Big F*cking Game as it will also have Doom 1 and 2.

Hmm Iuno if it's just me but the link is not working, its ok since I found it:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Bet...ack,15818.html

Also watched the video and frankly the graphics leave a bit to be desired but that's just me. I mean look at when the showed the character, he looks like iuno pastie? lol. Don't get me wrong I will be looking forward to this as well just hope they actually do some serious rework (you know how Bethesda can be).

And here is the IGN page for it : http://www.ign.com/games/doom-3/ps3-135329

By today's standards the GFX do still look dated.

Whoa head mounted display!?
John Carmack said in today's press-release. "Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it."
