Personally, I would take it apart so they can see where the socket sits, and also the back-side of the board where they need to solder, but it should not make much difference as I expect they will charge you a flat rate for doing it and if they are a decent place they won't charge you much anyway

Well after ringing for 24h they finally decided to answer the phone and when I asked them they said that it is way to small to solder -_- I cant say I´m not a noob but if a computer shop can´t solder that they truely are n00bs... So what should I do now ? My options are to connect the fan to some external power source ... ( please provide me with links and pictures as I dont know what to do at all ) or I can use a little pc fan that my old pc has and put it in instead... dont know if it is enough power :/ I think it is a molex connector on that one what is the connector to the ps3 fan called ? maybe I can find an external power source for it Thanks :D

Anyone what's the best solution to cool the power supply? It gets freakishly hot in my FAT PS3. Is that normal for them to get so hot?

They get hot but not that hot... Watch out for ylod... Make space for the ps3... Keep it on a cold surface and room... Check if that works

What's your model#?

You can replace it with a compatible one, from a newer model. For example, I have heard that CECHA's psu get very hot. And you can replace it with a psu from CECHG.

If ur talking about the power supply on the inside then yes I would upgrade to a newer one. Some of the early ones got hot. For me I'm a little overprotective when it comes to my machines and the heat inside. Comes from the early xbox mobo's I had jtagged but was fighting a never ending battle with those, in which the heat won

Yea in the inside. Touching the metal casing was freakishly hot. I would run the PS3 with the machine open and the PS3 would over heat and shut off within 5-10 minutes. It wasn't until I closed the PS3 that the issue would go away. I'm guessing that means the PS3 circulates air inside to cool the power supply?

I already took the liberty to sand the heats sinks and put thermal compound on them. That's the first thing I did when I got it, just to avoid the YLOD.
