I can't speak for all drm-dongle haters, but I will say this;
Myself, personally, I get a bit pissed off when I see people making up the most outlandish, ridiculous reasons to defend this thing. I think if you do a bit of soulsearching, you'll come to the conclusion that really, the only reason you love this stupid dongle so much is because you think you got a good deal; $60 for 100+ games which would cost $6000 to buy legit. You don't care about the right/wrong aspect of it, or what it does for or against the "scene", you just want games. And there's a word for that: "selfish".

When presented with a predicament like we're all facing here in the "PS3 scene", an ethical "gamer" would either a) update their console to play new games (which they buy) b) buy another machine for OFW use

This is ethical because it benefits everyone who matters- The game developers, because you're buying their games, you, because you are getting what you want and not harming anyone else, and grudgingly, Sony, because they do actually deserve to make a profit on their own console. If they didn't make a profit on consoles, they'd stop making them, right?

So what does TB do to the scene? It promises gamers the ability to play new games on their PS3 without updating to the latest firmware, and yes, it delivers exactly that. So how ethical is it? Who benefits, and who is harmed? Well, the only people who benefit in any way is TB and people who use it. TB sells a $5 piece of hardware for $60 to warez kiddies who don't give a crap about the scene and just wantz to haz free gamez. The developers of the games make nothing, Sony makes nothing, and the biggest loser of all is the hacking scene itself.

In case I come across as a "white hat", let me assure you, that couldn't be further from the truth. I just don't pay for piracy, and don't think anyone else should either. TB is the AIDS that is killing the scene. As far as I can tell, enabling fselfs on the PS3 can be done with some trivial patches. *Everything* else in their CFW/the dongle/their eboots/etc. is obfuscation, security, and DRM. We know how to accomplish exactly what they're doing, other than their source of the game eboots. (and it's not hard to speculate on that either)

So why do we get "so worked up" over this? Well, it's like watching a dog lick the hand of a man who's beating it to death.

Launch a free "DIY" at home version of TB and they will be sucking thumbs! I'm readying a USB stick for that moment !

Ofcourse, but that is because other laws are in place that make it a criminal act, even up to the possibility of being tagged a terrorist and get on the international BOLO when exporting/hacking encryption routines, share decryption techniques, deDRM, jailbreak, remove copyprotection etc.

As a pro dongle guy, that was a good post. But a couple of things I would like to mentioned.

First this whole scene was started with dongles. People act like they are something new. The first jailbreak was with a dongle. Then people came out with CFW.

Also for the so called "ethical" gamer there is a choice C)by a e3 flasher that allows you to back and forth.

As far as sony and developers making money I think your 100% right in that TB people want a good deal. With that said if TB didn't exist I don't think most people would suddenly start buying games. For example before I JB my console I signed up for gamefly, borrowed games from friends, rented games or bought used games. In all those cases sony and developers aren't making money.

Now if your whole argument for an anti TB view is its screwing developers and Sony. Why isn't there a anti gamefly and used game view also?
