How do I clone my PS3 HDD to put back on same new HDD in same PS3?
I cannot use backup utility due to it telling me to restore file system then error 35% and wanting to reformat and erase everything. I heard of ways to do this but can someone here explain to me the best/easiest way not to lose my data/saves on my HDD. I am replacing just the HDD and not the PS3. It is on the same system which I heard is the only way this can work. Help please...
![]() Btw good to see everyone. Been a while. I'm the Zerogame 3.15 YDL/PS3 guy that posted on here how to get the 40 emulators working on the PS3 mapped with dualshock 3 |

In that situation I would use FTP and make a full backup of the HDD on my PC, remove the old drive and put in the new drive and put everything back. Trophies can be restored also this way: make a trophy backup (/dev_hdd0/home/your user id/) and restore them and do a rebuild database (recovery menu) to put them back.

Nope. I cannot make it to the XMB. If I power up PS3 it says the hard disk file system is corrupted and will need to be restored. Then it restores to 35% and error and says it needs to do full system restore.
I can also go into the safe mode settings. I have tried back to default settings did nothing and rebuild database and it error before it starts. Sad thing is my PS3 I on the latest FW with no CFW and play online. I had no problems with online or single player games. Just my little nephew wanted play PSHome with me and ever since their latest update when I hit start, I froze. Well you cannot go to navigation, wardrobe, options or do anything without start button in Home. The tech person told me to restore my file system and it broke my PS3. I would have never even tried this without the tech telling me too. Even though I told them it was on their end after the update. I used Home 4 years no problems until that update and many others on official forum have same start button freeze issue. Although we are in the minority I'm not alone and now I'm screwed due to idiot tech support. I found this here http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=35695 but I do not think it will work for me due to step #13 is for a loop and mine error at 35% so I will not be able to press PS button to trick back to XMB due to that error message at 35%. Wish I had the loop instead. Any advice? I got massive 5 years of saves, movies, songs, pics, copyright saves, 500 demos, 120 game data's, only 21 GB left on 500GB HDD. I cannot lose all of this due to stupid Sony tech support when everything was fine but PSHome and now their walkthrough got me jacked up. Last edited by Psychokillaz; 06-09-2012 at 06:31 AM. |

Sounds like your only option is a format.
Also take note that if it is corrupted there is a chances your files were corrupted as well.

Idk. Worth a shot. I beleive the only other option would be to format and lose all your data.

Ok I followed that walkthrough in the link a few post above. My HDD is fine with zero bad sectors found with 2 runs through HDD Regenerator. I place back in PS3 and do step 13 but it still hangs up on 35% and error then wants to do a full system restore. I then try something new. At 34% of restoring file system, I take out HDD wait for it to get to 36% and put back in, It finishes to 100% then tries to restart but black screens and just hangs there for like an hour before turning off. I unplugged controller from USB and tried to do step 13 since that was first time I got to 100% and I did this b4 I got to 100% like it said, but no luck.
Anything else I can try that someone has figured out? Wish guy that started that other thread and fixed his would chime in here
