announced Wii-U specs: Up to 3GB of main memory (CAT-DEVs only), retail machine will have half devkit memory...

500 Mb will be taken by the OS making it 1Gb free memory

UE4 besides the graphics, physics and other elements, what also makes a great engine is the amount of resources it takes up. UE4 while being great in graphics, physic im sure will also use as few resources as possible. I mean any engine can look better then UE4 but the level of optimizations, and tweaking is what makes an engine run today smoothly on current hardware. So just saying that UE4 will be running on this system doesn't justify that it needs more memory.

In exclusive we have the detailed first specs (not final) for PS4, most likely first alpha kits sent to developers:

TLDR SPECS

CPU

4 core (2 core pairs) 3.2 GHz AMD x86 (Steamroller)
aggregate, 10x PS3 PPU performance
512 KByte L2 per core pair
64 bit pointers

GPU

AMD R10x series GPU @ 800 MHz (Tahiti)
aggregate 10x RSX performance, 1.84 TFlops
DX”11.5″
cheap branching
18 compute units, focus on fine grained compute & tessellation

MEMORY:

2 GByte UMA, pushing for 4 GByte
192 GByte/ sec non-coherent access for e.g. GPU
12 GByte/ sec coherent access for CPU
>50% longer memory latency for CPU/ GPU compared to PC!!!
DXT is lowest bpp texture compression format

MEDIA:

50 GByte BD drive
PCAV, between 3.3 and 8x BD, most likely clamped to 6x
automatic background caching to HDD
HDD SKU with at least 380 GByte
downloadable games

EXTRA HARDWARE:

video encoder/ decoder
audio processing unit, ~200 concurrent MP3 streams
HW zlib decompressor

Our source claims that the final specs should be 10x powerful than PS3, due to this info has got 10 months.

Imagine in GTA you make a make rampage and only come back you see there has been no action taken whatsoever, and everything is still there.

With more ram, we can return to see every dead person with exactly where their blood was. Infact, we can even come after few days and see EVERY bullet you shot out of your gun. Wouldn't that add major realism to the game? It would make a game AMAZING just to see the impact you made the other day.

Have you ever heard about the problems the PS3 is having with Skyrim? Yes most of its Bethesda's fault but ram also plays into the equation, and considering there only 512MB ram (or is 256MB?), the game starts lagging because the guy you killed the other day has to still be in that place but you just killed several people now so what will happen to them?

We need more ram, and 2GB is VERY minuscule compared to AVERAGE PCs today. Even my 2007 has 2GB ram, which was the high expectation before. Now we have different expectations, and 2GB ram is way below average of what the next gen consoles should have.

How can you say it is 100% real without any proof? The specs look way better than what the PS4 is RUMORED to have.

good point but that kind of information doesn't need 8GB to store, besides who wants to destroy all of GTA and leave nothing else to do? I mean I'd prefrer that somethings gets regenerated etc while im away.

skyrim required more ram because of crappy coding, not because it was physically required.
you can hide crappy code and bugs by adding more ram sure but at its core its still flawed. bethesda have a reputation for awesome games but also for not fixing their **** before release and sometimes after release as well.

they admitted it needed major work to the engine to fix it fully and to simply release it knowing the work needed doing but neglecting to do it is no excuse and to blame it on system memory is a joke

anyway lol ill stop ranting about bethesda im still pissed that i lost approx 50hrs play on 360 and on ps3 due to game killing bugs where i literally cannot carry on without starting a new game or going back to a real old save but the ram is not everything.

coded correctly for systems and not just porting over in a rush is the real solution and i hope that developers actually acknowledge it this time around and make a winning console
