Ps3 fan doesnt go down a stage upgraded fan

Okay so I use to play dead rising 2 and I noticed my ps3 went up in stages to the point of sounding like a jet taking off, so yes I knew what the problem was since iv had issues like this before. so I went out and bought some thermal paste and took my ps3 apart and seen there wasnt much paste (dump sony) so I put new paste on and I found a ps3 fan that was a 19 bladed fan. I seen my old fan was 17 I think and had 2.0amps I believe and the 19 fan was 2.90A so I put the 19 fan in my ps3 and now I notice after playing twisted metal and go to the xmb the fan doesnt go down to a lower stage like it should and it never went down to a lower stage with the old fan as well so, does anyone know what the problem is? My ps3 is a 80gbCHL01 btw my ps3 goes up to stage 2 or 3 in about 5mins still just like before could still be a paste problen iv been messing around with trying to find the right amount to much is bad to little is bad thanks.

I would double check my work again(Which I'm sure you did). You can try @KillerBug fan controller, but if your having heat issue this may just be a band aid. What do you or anyone else think? Just curious. what kind of paste did you use?

I also noticed that my ps3 doesn't drop fan stage. When I play, for example, GT5, the fan starts to spin faster and I notice 2 fan speed increase. It keeps quiet, but when it is idling in xmb doesn't drop fan speed. Never opened my ps3 to change thermal paste, but never YLOD from 2008 :D

Ps3 when gaming should blow out warm-hot air. My right side of ps3 back is hotter, but thats because air doesn't travel as fast as the left side, so it heats up the plastic. Its no big deal. Ps3 is supposed to heat but not to overheat. If your fan doesn't kick in like a hurricane, then you're fine

How hot is the outside of case when you touch it? I'm a "Heat Freak" real paranoid about overheating on my machines. Once I changed my paste the outside would get pretty hot but I never had fan speed step up. We need a diagnosis.

If you have this issue again, try this:
1-Disassemble ps3 and clean thermal paste with alcohol with cirular movements
2-Apply new thermal paste evenly (i used MX-4 for my cousin PS3)
3-Apply some force in cooler and make small circular movements, so the thermal paste fills the air gaps
4-assemble ps3 but carefull when tightening the holder screws (those metal plates in small V form(that hold the cooler)). Tight them evenly, screw evenly the 2 screws by plate
5- dont place the cover of ps3, so when you are gaming, you can touch the metal to see if it is really hot. If it is cold, and fan is blowing intensively, you have a problem in thermal paste. If it is hot, and fan is blowing normally, you have done right and you can close the ps3.

NOTE: If PS3 starts to make a lot of noise while gaming, dont turn it off instantly! Instead, quit to xmb for 15min for it to cool down, so it wont crack the solder!

Only problem is it doesnt cool down in the xmb and I fixed it from going up stages fast I wouldnt suggest this but I live in michigan and it was about 55 outside and a cool breeze coming through my window so I just set my ps3 up on my window for a few hours my thinking it would help cure it better? After a few hours I started playing twisted metal and resistamce 3 and it no longer goes to im thinking stage 4 or 5, also I just realized last time I took it apart I went back to my old 17 bladed fan should I go back to my 19?

The 19 Blade will move more air thus cooling better. In my opinion
