unless ur gonna be sequencing the human gnome u don't need that much computing power ur gonna end up having a super computer for which u have no use for i can't think of any software/application that specifically require an octocore and or 32 gb of ram do u really wanna buy a $4000 piece of equipement only to wait 5 years before any application is made capable of using u need a high end computer not a super computer most software a made for single and dual core what u need today is a 2.40 ghz quad core, 8 gb of ram, 2tb hdd + external space if needed, a bd/dvd/cd burner reader combo, and a sick graphic card fron nvidia or ati u can get all that and more for $2000 and all ur gaming and video editing needs will be satisfied for the next 5 years (maybe more) keep in mind hardware power is always far ahead of software requirements

Unless a mobo can take a six core and an 8 core in the same slot would I consider it, but that's highly unlikely.

Try googling. Also try anandtech for comparison of processors and graphics cards. It can help quite a lot in choosing your parts

I've been rocking a Phenom II X4 for the past couple years and I still slay anything that gets thrown at it.
You aren't going to need more than 4 cores unless you are running a server, or maybe if you do heavy video editing. More cores != faster, completely dependent on whether the program can utilize it (and most don't, although thats starting to change). Intel is going to run cooler and not draw as much power, but more expensive. My AMD rig seconds as a heater in the winter, but I can live with that ![]() Same goes with RAM, 32GB is super excessive. If you're looking for sheer performance, put that money into a SLI setup or a spend the extra for water cooling. You're going to see more gain out of a high end graphic setup rather than overloading the thing with RAM. NVidia vs AMD? Doesn't really matter, but go with an ASUS or EVGA model of whatever because they have the best warranties (EVGA = Lifetime warranty, tradeup program, can replace fan/heatsink and not void warranty etc.). The limiting factor on the cards nowadays in the video ram, so spend the extra and get something with 2GB, I didn't and I slightly regret it. Some would say go with SSD. I'd say get some WD Caviar Blacks and you'll be set. SSD is a crapshoot, but if you're going to get one consider a small SSD for your boot, and then a larger one for practical storage. And i'm also a fan of Gigabyte mobos. The 2nd (safe) bios is a big draw because I've had mobos die on flashing before (passed hash check, verified bla bla bla, but something screwy with the flash drive effed it up). Oh, last bit of advice. Buy the parts locally if at all possible, that way if something is broken or not exactly what you need, you can return it without having to wait a week for shipping. |
