Hello @hellooldchap42
Follow the instructions in this post:
http://www.ps3hax.net/showpost.php?p...&postcount=707

This will tell you what's the lowest firmware you can downgrade to. If it's 3.55 or lower you can downgrade via a hardware flasher.

Then find your PS3 model number on the back of your PS3 & look at this list to find out if you have a NAND or NOR:
http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models

If you have a NOR and want a solderless solution, look into E3 Flasher

If you have a NAND look into Progskeet.

If you don't mind soldering, Progskeet would be the way to go.

Ok, a few questions...

Do you mean if its 3.55 or HIGHER I can downgrade via a hardware flasher?

Also, what does NAND or NOR have to do with any of it? What do they mean?

I don't have any soldering experience whatsoever, so I would rather not need to. Is E3 flasher going to be my best bet?

As I said before, I plan to buy a PS3 to do this on, so I can keep my PSN on my primary machine. Is there a model that would be best to look for? Models I should avoid altogether?

If after using the minverchk and finding out If it's 3.55 or lower that you can downgrade to. If there was a way to put MFW on higher than 3.55 and it was good*, we would all have it.

Also, what does NAND or NOR have to do with any of it? What do they mean?
NAND and NOR are the chipsets that PS3 come with. In this case, they determine if you can use "E3 Flasher" or not. What is your PS3 Model number

If you have a NOR in your PS3, yes.

If you know you want to add MFW/CFW to you PS3, try to look for a used PS3 that can be downgraded. Take a look at the link I provided talking about SKU Models, that will let you know if it can be downgraded or, visit a few pawn shops and ask them to bring out all the PS3 they have to verify if it's already at 3.55 or lower.

If I were to go to Gamestop and ask, would they just let me plug the console in and check it like they do for trade-ins? I would rather not buy it unless I know for sure that I'm not gonna get screwed. And if the lowest it can go IS 3.55 or lower, can I use the OFW file to get it there?

As I said, I am not flashing my current PS3, but I will be happy to tell you the other one's Model as soon as I know it.

Just to make sure I'm reading this chart right, the last model that can be downgraded normally (with OFW) was CECH-251.B, right?

And Thank you so much for your help.

If they wanna make the sell, they should. And yes, if it's 3.55 or lower, you can just update with software to 3.55 or whatever MFW..eg, Rogero, Kmeaw, ReBug.

The model number was only important if you were going to downgrade it yourself. Since you're going to try find one already at or below 3.55, it's really not important now.

Correct, pay particular attention to the date code to know for sure with that model number.

Finally had time to install mmCM and try backing up a smaller game from my collection which seemed to work fine. I was able to boot the game without the disc after it took a copy of the game. I'm not sure if that uses BDEMU2 or not. Now I'm off to find a way to reactivate my PSN content since it all asks to be reactivated via PSN now(tried Dead nation last night) . I'm sure some research will show me whatever I need to fix to make it work as I don't want to login to PSN now and get my console banned.

Hi everyone.

Wanted to JB my PS3. First thing in reading the posts here that I could not. Can anyone confirm this. I've checked the model and it is a CECHH-04 with now a 4.11 FW.

Really need to know if there is some possibility to do it. I do not mind soldering and opening the console.

Aslong as it isnt a 3000 series it should be good to downgrade.

Use minver check to find your lowest fw allowed on the PS3, if it allows 3.55 and below you can downgrade it, but you will need a Flasher to do so.

1. What is 3000 series? How will I know? Based the model through http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models which was posted here a few posts ago.

2. What is minver?

3. What is Flasher? Is that the updated or the JB version of the PUP? From what I understand that the highest downgrade JB version of the PUP is 3.56? Mostly people use 3.55 is what I understand.

Is that also the PUP JB which I'll be putting into a USB stick to System Update my PS3? Kindly correct me if I am wrong.
