EXT HD problems... tried about everything.

I have a segate 2tb goflex hd and its acting funny... im not laughing though. It dosn't matter the device I plug it up to; I can get it to function for about 20 seconds... in that time I can copy anything (some larger files get hung up and stop, but it has made it through 6gb of video--- mutpile files, whole folder) or view contents... with multiman ALL the games show up (around 120)... point is the index is there and files are intact.... to begin with the dock would beep untill connected device was accessing it, then when finished it would start again... Ive read all the hd's don't beep threads, but it wasn't the discs sliding... it beeped when stationary... 15 minutes to an hour it would stop all togather untill unplugged and reset... I was thinking it was the mbr's but have no experience rebuilding them.... by the time I had researched it I had the nonfunctioning peice I now have. After my wife unpluged it to move it one day, functions halted.... no more beeping... internal power seems fine, disc does one index read and quits.... seatools will tell me it fails... easus will recognize it just the same as me trying to access it and scandsk will work out about 4% of the drive befor it kicks out... very frustrating... only had about 250gb free on it... if its broke, fine... if its mangled boot files or a bad dock I NEED suggestions please, i don't know how to fix something that won't give me enough time to do anything

Okay.... Well, then, nice to meet you as well :->

Hmmm.... Thankyou OoZic ... seems to be a pretty good program... doing a deep check of cylinders right now.... Not sure what is going to come up, still have the same problem of having to be quick when running the program, but I have found that while doing this scan I can access my info... just copied cdmw2 to pc.... I guess if all else fails I can slowly transfer my stuff over now..... I just don't understand the root cause... It is showing me another partition that I didn't make which might be contradicting to the file structure causing the crash... dunno, hoping this deep scan will 1) make it all the way trough 2) tell me something :->

last ran till about 56 percent... Finding several invalid FAT boot sectors... so I atleast have the comfort of knowing my initial guess was right.. kinda anyway... Still, I am able to get my stuff off using this method... I just don't have another 2tb hd sittin around, 500gb, 500 in ps3 and 640 on my laptop... guess its pick and choose time till I get another!

Try taking the casing apart and hook it up to your computer via sata cable. I had a circuit board go bad in an external once. Hopefully the drive itself is still salvageable. Test disk works good but it takes forever. Rebuilding an MBR is easy enough but that could also render your files inaccessible. Anyways, try that and get back to us.

Oh and you'll probably have to go to your start menu and type in "create and format hard disk partitions" to get your pc to recognize it.
