@ps3hen SEX can be disguised as CEX and viceversa but DEX FW cant be disguised as either? Or could it? (cex/dex conversion?)

Dex disguised as SEX/CEX + DEX L0ve = ???

Not that simple. Short answer yes you can disguise DEX firmware as SEX/CEX firmware. Long answer it won't convert your PS3 to DEX by itself, in fact it will brick your PS3. There are checks on DEX firmware to not run, if the PS3's IDPS doesn't have a debug target ID.

And about the IDPS, it is plain text in two places on the NAND/NOR, but is also encrypted in the EID (part of the NAND/NOR) of the PS3. The firmware checks done by the LV2 of DEX firmware to boot, is only done on the plain text IDPS. Though some of the most important debug functions (i.e. the using the PS3 with the Target Manager) require the IDPS encrypted in the NOR/NAND, to have a debug target ID to work.

I hope that answers your question

There is someone who claims to be working on a CEX->DEX converter. But don't hold your breath, the same person claims to be able to get the decrypted .elfs of 3.60+ eboot.bins, more than 2 months ago. Also has two unreleased CFWs, which are cancelled or delayed for unknown reasons. Amongst repeating what someone else did claiming he did it first. And had a very interesting (completely wrong) theory on how TB managed to play the latest games, which was quickly squashed by everyone. And has used one of his partners as a scapegoat, as an excuse for not coming through with a commitment.

You would think that sex firmware would be more exploitable because it's not the main firmware. And is there anyway i could use your Devil patch with this or is this firmware absolutely complete pointless.

My guess is pointless.

SEX is just for demo consoles at events and on shop floors so I guess security is lax and it can be chucked on any old machine to use as a restricted machine to demo games etc.....

DEX on the other hand is unrestricted, so it makes sense its harder to install.

SEX FW= CEX FW + Extra restrictions + boring kiosk only features + install packages files - installing game updates via regular means.

You're thinking of the XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+ for short). It wasn't just me, it was a group of people. But anyway, no the XMBM+ cannot be used with this. AFAIK you can't create modified FW (changes in the actual update data) which will install on the 3.56+. And using the XMBM+ requires modifications to the FW, it can't run on it's own. This "modded" kiosk FW will install OFW kiosk in retail PS3s the actual Kiosk FW AFAIK hasn't/can't be modded.
