I done some research on this a few months back for my own external HD, sad to say I didn't find anything, in fact most places said it was impossible to convert (and keep files). Its complete re-format to fat-32 only.

Wait what are you doing? trying to convert an exfat formated hdd from a PS3 to fat32 to be used on windows?
First off how did you get the exfat to work on ps3 if you did at all? Second why do you need converting? windows supports both file systems.

I had a quick look and I don't see a direct exfat to fat32 converter but I do see a exfat to ntfs and a ntfs to a fat32 converter.

you probably deleted NFTS generic volume then make new one then it went format into xFAT
well if you format it to xFAT then changing it to FAT32 is easy ........you dont even need a software to do that. just go run etc im not allowed to share link here so . ill explain how first Run then type CMD >> [type] format /FS:FAT32 X: [X is the letter of HDD to format to FAT32] the fallow it through y/n etc note : X is the letter of the HDD you want to format DO NOT FORMAT YOUR PC MAIN HDD careful on this one make sure you type in the right Letter of the HDD you want to format i did this and now i have 1TB ext HDD for my PS3 2nd choice : or otherwise use swissknife for partition and formatting i hope i helped and sorry if not.
