Ok, I have a 360 Elite with a Philips Lite On 16D2S Drive, FW Ver:83850C. I have all the equipment I need in order to do it, but I am trying to be as safe as possible and ask ALL the questions I have. So that said, I'll probably put more questions in later posts. lol.

So my first question is about the firmware. The JF tutorial says to update my dashboard to the latest version. So I did. But it also talks about the firmware as if they were two different things. Are they? And how do I update my FW (if needed). Then there's this: "IF YOU HAVE A STOCK 83850 v1 YOU CAN DUMP DUMMY.BIN BEFORE UPDATE, THEN UPDATE. MANUAL LOAD LT+1.91 AND SPOOF." I don't understand why they want my drive to be stock, but they want me to update to the latest versions.

Another thing I need to check is CFW. What versions do I need to start? And what is the latest version I can use? Do I need to update in order or can I just skip all the previous versions?

Sorry I'm such a noob, but I want to make sure I do this right that way I know how to do it correctly the first time and quickly and correctly next time.

ok its easy
install the latest update on your xbox(download it from microsoft website and put it in usb drive....see the instruction on their website)
get your firmwire key using probe
then flash your dvd drive with lt3+ Lite-On 02510
dont forget to spoof your key

Hmm, if you wanted to RGH (I guess that is what you mean with CFW? Or are we still only talking about flashing the dvd drive?) then upgrading to the newest dashboard/kernel was a bad idea.
Firmwares above... cant remember the number requires RGH2, which still works superb, but not as fast/stable as RGH1 if I remember correctly

I honestly don't even know what RGH is. Heard the term a lot, but never knew what it was. So I extracted the key and tried to auto load the firmware for it (LT+ 3.0) but it says it can't open the file. WHYY???

Basically,
flashing the dvd drive = play backups from DVD. I recall if flashed in the right way, you can play on xbox live with it.
RGH/JTAG = Means to run unauthorized code. So you can run backup managers, video players, install xbox live games to the harddisk, etc. Xbox live is not an option here(although some have dual nand in their xbox's to both have a unmodified and a modified xbox..)

It's a bit more troublesome to do though. JTAGing was easy, but they patched it in an update back in 2009. That kernel update blew some of the efuses, making it impossible to JTAG it anymore.
RGH is a new way to run authorized code that saw the light last year. Basically, you install a PCB in the xbox that sends a well timed pulse when the xbox is started. Somehow, people found out that if the xbox CPU receives a pulse on its reset pin during some very specific nano seconds in its startup, it allows for unauthorized code to run on the xbox (Dno what it does though, flip some flags alá the monitormode flag I assume?).

you just load the lt3+ file by pressing "target"

Just find a youtube tutorial for your liteon drive. You're already updated to the latest dash so flashing on it's own should be simple. Get your drive key and flash the firmware.

If you already have your drive hooked up don't pay attention to how this guy did it. Just pay attention to the steps he takes on JungleFlasher. If this doesn't work for you then search until you find one that you like better.

Can you please explain this a little more? If I click "Open Target Firmware", I get a large list of Firmwares to choose (The entire LT+ list in a folder). I don't know which one I'm supposed to use. Its a DG-16D2S FW Ver: 83850C, Manufactured in July 2009.
