Cool PS4 not backwards-compatible?Stream it!

Wouldn't be really cool if Sony uses Gaikai's streaming technology to play PS2 and PS3 games on the PS4,since it isn't(allegedly) backwards compatible?

Heck they could start it out right now with PS2 titles on PS3.

No doubt they will, and they will charge you to play games you have laying around as discs....

I don't want to pay twice for a game I physically own!?

I've got around 45 PS2 titles all sitting on a shelf over here and would love to play them on my PS3 console but I guess Sony will never release an program on PSN to be able to play them

We can only hope the PS4 will be backwards compatible

I guess it isnt a "given" that backwards compatibility should be available, but it takes the p!ss re-releasing and charging for games over and over again for each new system....

For shadow of the colossus for example, i bought it on PS2, then on ps3 because my 60GB broke, and now I might have to pay a third time for a game if, lets say for arguments sake I can't afford multiple consoles, and I trade in my PS3 towards a PS4?

Money for old rope.

Yeah, I was watching in this topic http://www.ps3hax.net/showpost.php?p=386743&postcount=1
and those prices are just ridiculous. 10 to 20 bucks for on old PS2 game.. they ain't that expensive in the store anymore (if you are lucky enough to find them)

I'm not going to pay like 12 bucks for RE Code Veronica when I got the PS2 disc laying around over here, are they crazy o.0

Not that it is hard to put the disc in my PS2 console, but you get the point..

$ony Y U DO THIS

I can think of 2 reasons, 1 money, 2 maybe some vulnerabilities ??

Exactly.

I ditched my PS2 for a 60GB ps3, but it died... now I have 2 slim ps3's (1=ofw/1=cfw) and no way to play my old games.... grrrrr.... It's all about the money. Make no mistake.

My 60GB makes a lovely doorstop though.

Silly you, dont you know you dont own anything you purchase!

You did not buy a game, you bought a license to a game.
Not only that you bought a licence to a game to play on a specific console.
So buying a new console, even though it's a next console from the one you have, requires a brand new licence!

And on top of that, if you break or scratch the disc that the game came on, they dont even replace it free of charge, or even for a small fee, you have to buy a brand new licence at full price!

Oh and technically that licence is for one console only, if you have 2 PS3 and want to play on both, technically you are supposed to buy 2 copies; at least that's what publishers want so they can make more money.

haha, lolz.

But this is what they want; same with the music industry.

Aplle did it with itunes, you could only play the music file your "bought" on an apple product, winamp etc cant play the files. You could copy it to a cd, or another device. So what was the whole point of "buying" the track?
So apple still do this? idk I dont listen to much music of support apple. :P

We've seen how the game publishers added unique serial codes and keys to games. $ony already using the Online Pass, where if you buy a second hand game you can play it offline, but if the online pass code has been used before, you will need to buy a new one.

Can you imagine any scene where there was no second-hand market? These publishers can, but dont realise how much it would affect their profits. e.g. some people cannot afford a new console, they buy a second hand one, then buy second hand games. Imagine if they could buy a second hand console but no second hand games. What would be the point.
So if people dont buy second hand consoles, no pawn shop will buy your old consoles, meaning you wont have enough money to buy the new consoles. So new console sale figures will drop, and as a result game sales.

So really these guys dont realise that they are killing off their own profits, but blaming pirates for it :P

Kind of true, in a round about way.

The second hand market makes all profits on what they buy and sell. 0% goes to sony.

I know I used to be a manager at GAME. Preowned is 100% profit for GAME but 0% developers and manufacturers. I agree this is more harmful to the industry than pirates.

I see what you mean, the dichotomy of selling your old console to buy a new one, but if sony really cared about that they would do trade ins themselves. They just push out new hardware in an endless cycle.

EDIT: I think my point is moot..
