ok so i'm understanding this right:
you dont get any shorts when you test the progskeet with the clips attached AND NOT CONNECTED TO THE NANDS.
DONT TEST IF THERE CONNECTED TO THE NANDS
1 it will say there is a short
2 it can damage your NANDs / Progskeet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
after this connect your clips to the NANDS then :-

On NAND tab, you click NAND 1 and select 'auto'
On NAND tab, you click NAND 2 and select 'auto'
If it fails, it means it is not connected correctly
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
here are the re-work points so the clip will sit flush :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
are you getting 3.3v at the Y adaptor?
see near the bottom of this page
http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Progskeet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
after this someone els needs to step in as i'm at a loss

I think that is my problem. I checked with a multimeter and it didn't register anything. I did have everything connected (pc and clipped to nand) and the ps3 running.

So I solder those 2 wires from the progskeet to the y adaptor, right?

And this will power the nand without needing the ps3. So I don't turn on the ps3, right?

Would I be able to dump the nands with the motherboard out of the ps3 this way? Or do I still need the heat sinks attached?

BTW - Thanks a lot for your help.

ok just remember i havent got my NAND unit yet and with the wiki you have to fill in the blanks.

if it was me i would see if the negative side on the Y conector is connected to the negative pads on progskeet board.
if it is then you just need the 3.3v plus side connecting.

with the ps3 on you should get 3.3v at that point comming from the ps3
if not it could be a good indication that the clips are not on propperly. but then again they could be on fine.

then try with the ps3 turned off bridge R7 & R8 should send 3.3v direct to that point (DO NOT TURN THE PS3 ON AT ALL WHILE YOU CHECK THIS)
so check again with it set like this.

if you get your voltage try the NAND 1 & 2 auto test again (AGAIN DONT TURN THE PS3 ON AT ALL)

if you still dont get a voltage on the Y put a wire from the 3.3v point on progskeet to the plus point on the Y connector.

and test it again in the normal way that you did before.

just a thought but you have bridged the two 3.3v settings on the progskeet?
i know i forgot this the first time i did mine lol

also if you dont need to power on the ps3 then you dont need the fan or heat sheild attached. you just need the bare motherboard
---------------------------------------------------------------------
i am really trying my best here but its hard diagnosing when i dont have the unit here with me. so just be carefull and take your time with the above steps.

Well, I soldered the wires from the solderless adaptor to the Progskeet. I still couldn't dump the nand.

So I tried the other nand and used a spring clamp to hold the clip on. It worked great. Winskeet recognized what brand chip and I dumped it.

But when I try the other nand, winskeet only recognizes it when I hold the clip down and twist it a little. I can't get the spring clamp on as good as I could the othe chip.

So it is definitely the contact of the 360 clip. Maybe I just need to solder all these wires, instead of messy with this crappy clip.

yea like i said the clips are supposed to be faulty from the start.
did you scrape some of the holder back a bit so it doesnt catch any other components near the nand?

and have you try'd swapping the clips? do you get the same results or is it better / worse?

make alot of dumps then compaire them with a similer dump from the wikki. really make sure your getting 100% good dumps

let me know how you get on but now you have solved this i wont be on as much while i try to get the nand side typed up.

what is the E3 nor clip like? is it a nice fit or does it need clamping aswell if its to be used as a downgrader? (i assume the heat sheild holds it in place if its used for duel boot

I have eventually got WinSkeet to recognize both nand chips. With a lot of adjusting the clip with a spring clamp. I can get WinSkeet to make a dump, without any of the blocks failing verification.

But when I try to "UNSCRAMBLE then interleave two NAND flashes into one unified dump." I get errors and it will not complete the process.
I get a 248 MB bin file, and a empty .ext folder.

I guess I just need to keep trying. Or bust out the soldering iron. LOL.

As for the e3 nor clip, I did have to modify it a little. So it would fit on some models. But no where near the trouble I am having with this 360 nand clip.
I had to shave some of the sides the same way, but not as much.
And I am able to clip it on the nor chip and tape it down (no clamping). I get a good dump first try, every time with the e3 nor clip.

sounds like one of the nand clips still isnt connected propperly.

with the clip that you have the least trouble with
can you connect it to the first nand and do a dump then connect it to the second nand and do a dump (i think you have to change the position on the Y connector aswell for each nand)

then try flow rebuilders option: "UNSCRAMBLE then interleave two NAND flashes into one unified dump."

and see if thats any better.

if not then try with the "dodgy" one

btw none of the pins look stuck do they?

& are you using the latest flow rebuilder?

I think I have the clip on good now. My problem was I didn't have the RAW box checked. Now that I checked that box, and made a few dumps of each chip, when I "UNSCRAMBLE then interleave two NAND flashes into one unified dump." I got 0 errors for both NAND0 and NAND1 and the .ext folder is filled. Wahoo!!!!
Now I am about to check with hex editor. Sucks ps3devwiki is down? EDIT-IT'S BACK UP Anyway I'm gonna make some more dumps and check them in HxD.

NOTE - It is so much easier to do with the mobo out of the PS3, and after modifying the clip and using a spring clamp.
I have actually been following this guide here. It has some great pics.
