Catching Up on Scene / New PS3

Good Afternoon All -

I've been out of the PS3 scene for a while after my PS3 died a few months ago. Previously, I had an older Phat PS3 which I believe I had on fw 3.5. I had jail broken it with apps on the dashboard which would launch my backups from an external hard drive connected via USB or internal disk.

Today, I'm considering buying a new PS3 and found a new one on NewEgg which is a slim 160gb one (Model 98423.). I've read through some posts, but am still trying to catch up on what the ideal setup is to have now so thought I'd post.

If I purchase this slim unit (unknown fw), should I be good to go as far as jailbreaking? Is there a more jailbreak compatible unit out there? Do I need to find a unit with a specific fw version?

All I want to do is be able to install home few on the dash and be able to launch/play my backups

Thanks!

3.55 is the firmware to go. It's hard to find one nowadays.

Hey

Found some information about the firmware after searching the model number.

Highlights for Sony 98423 PlayStation 3 System
This system will come with firmware 3.6 or greater.

The highest jailbreakable firmware at the moment is 3.55.
Any ps3 that comes with a firmware higher than 3.55 can't get jailbroken or downgraded to 3.55.
