Yes you can actually debug with a Dex.
As for horrible, poorly coded PS3 emus? How long has it been since you used Squarepusher's emulators? They eclipse anything on the PC & XBOX1 (apart from what he ported to both). Interface.. can use mmCM to launch and the actual emulator menu is more than sufficient. Mednafen isn't the most usable or pretty but it hasn't been worked on for ages. they also tell me how much better the Xbox 1 is at anything. I'm working on RetroArch Xbox 1 right now. VBA Next doesn't even run Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival at 60fps - make it more like 40/35fps - that's next to the PS3/360's >60fps. Seriously, take off the rose-tinted glasses is all I can say to some peeps. The Xbox 1 was a spectacular homebrew console for its time - that is because it was x86 - it was easy to port stuff. And no, it didn't have lots of crazy vector processors to 'take advantage of' - x86 ASM/SSE code is highly prevalent on PC so it was very easy to take existing emulators from the PC and port them to Xbox 1 with great results. To people who are disappointed about the relatively few emulators/games available on PS3/360 by comparison - learn something about machine architectures - the vast majority of code out there on the Internet is x86-oriented - I can't just take a Killer Instinct emu with a pre-written x86 dynarec like what was done on Xbox 1 - the PPC dynarec was never made - so it would have to be made from scratch. A portable 32X emu was never made - so would have to be made from scratch or cobbled together somehow. This all takes a massive commitment of time and most importantly - skill - skill which the average porter doesn't even have or doesn't feel it's worth the time investment. Also, indeed, RetroArch 360/PS3 have the best graphics available anywhere - I don't think you can find any other emu with FBO/render targets where you can apply two shaders to the screen at once - it's only there in RetroArch PC and that is kinda hard to configure for the lay person. But indeed, there's nothing out there that can even rival it. So to say the emus or the frontend is 'poorly coded' is baffling to say the least. I don't get it either - but I guess a fancypants GUI with lots of JPEG/PNG pictures (which all consume RAM on what are already memory-strapped systems) is much more preferable. Well I'm wrong 90% of the time but don't you just have to fself retail eboots to make them playable on a DEX?
All the homebrew is no problem as its easily decrypted. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 |

Would be a smart move by Sony not to patch anything that's been discovered lately.
I mean: as soon as people hear that the PS3 got cracked wide open the sellings on PS3 would jump through the roof. (I have to admit that it'd be only because of the piracy) And that wouldn't be so bad for Sony to bridge the time between now (that more and more rumours about a PS4 appear) and the date they actually release the PS4. That would be simple but effective strategy... :D

from the wiki:
http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Talk:...pro_versus_con CEX2DEX pro versus con PROS : Using the features of a debug console Executing FSELFs CONS : PSN not possible You can't play online More Stress to the console (Phats prone to YLOD) You can't play backups (obvious exception of MultiMan 3.55 DEX) I don t fully agree with somes statements described on PRO and CONS but if someone can detail the one about stressing the console. Also other argument about releasing it is bad idea is none sense since seculars but it s interesting to see who is saying it. "free candy but the next will not be." Also, Hellsing9 spoke about manhunt article but will not be released? Others articles were nice even the riddles are not so easy (and let even may be more speculations), be should continue. |
