someone need to set all this straight with ppl, MM dex does only run on 3.55? no? and 3.55+ doesent have lv1/2 peek/poke it cant mount games
I'm not asking if it will run tb games.

I'm asking if it will run backups of games higher than 3.60 without the need to patch the games?

Or can we patch games ourselves?

The other parts of my question were whether upgrading to 4.11 would allow us to continue playing older backups whilst playing brand new retai games.

This is assuming running multiman dex.

Sorry I thought my questions were quite clear, I already have tb, there is no support for it, and won't be in the future, so If dex gives me what I have now, with the possibility of more then I'll install it

Not necessary from the little i can understand, it s also/more about flasher than dongles this will hurt.
In general you need an flasher to downgrade into 3.55 because your cat have updated your ps3 by accident.
It s still not the same than having a real flasher but by having the software ability to downgrade post 3.55, it deteriorate the value and need of hardware flasher.

The argument about having news devs in town thanks to this ...i want to believe but i doubt.

Attention

With this kind of information, you can BRICK your PS3. I've done the proper warning on the frontpage. SO BE CAREFUL and if is something *bad* happens. You know this is a double edged sword.

This being said. I hope not to (as the staff of all Hax) to start to *moderate* threads about problems/bricks/etc about this Cex>Dex tutorial.
You are at your own, if you want to know more. Go to ps3devwiki or just ASK in the help section before doing something that you will regret later.

Regards

By itself: no it will not play 3.55+ game backups.

AFAIK there was only MM patched for dex 3.55, not higher.... well probably not released anyways.

well im glad its out in the open, even if it means that devs with converts have more issues with future versions as speculated in this thread

its not like we were progressing past 3.55 anyway right so if this allows retail games plus homebrew then awesome. stay off psn/play new games/have homebrew, isnt that what devs wanted anyway?

if this miraculously is made to work on 3k models then my arcade cab will have a ps3 powering its emulators instead of an xbox 1

For those of you who are wondering about backups and debug firmwares, please read this post.

A debug ps3 can play backups, there is a feature built into the firmware that allows this.

This feature was implemented because developers needed a way to play test a game that he or she is currently creating.

How this feature works is: The debug ps3 uses a specially formatted external usb drive aka bluray drive emulator(BDEMU).

You can use pretty much any usb drive and format it into a BDEMU using the debug ps3.

So let's say a dev has a game they want to play test and a bluray drive emulator.

The next few steps are compile the game, sign the elfs into SELF/SPRX and upload that game onto the bluray drive emulator, but because only sony has the keys to sign the games and because sony does not give these keys to the developer the only option a dev has is to create an FSELF/FSPRX
(The "F" means fake) aka debug eboot.

Now for what I assume are anti piracy reasons only one game at a time can be installed to the bluray drive emulator and it has to have a debug eboot to work. I do not know how the sprx situation is handled.

So yes, you can play backups on a debug ps3, even one on the latest DEX FW if you can obtain the debug eboot and possibly the debug SPRX files for the backup you want to play and you have the BD disk generation tool and you don't mind the one game at a time limitation.

Of course this is how things work now, sony could find a way to stop "Backups" on debug ps3's and/or some dev could release a much easier way to play them.

Edit: It seems you can fit up to four games on a single bluray drive emulator.

oh, well it wont run any other backups afaik on 3.55, i MIGHT be wrong havent tested yet (dont see as it hasent got newer keys) and multiman dex i guess can´t mount games on 3.56+ dex fw, as it doesent have peek/poke lv1/2 patches, but you can update and play your disc game, and downgrade to 3.55 again to play backups, afaik

ah np iam retarded sometimes lol xD well not really (YET) they might crack the road tho,

IIRC there is also a mode to load games from internal too as an ISO or some image file (or maybe not a single file at all but maybe a Dir.... iuno), but all this is out of the scope that I know lol. But I think the feature im talking about is only available in DECR.

PS: Hope on IRC sometimes and lets all chat
