The real question nobody is asking is:

Will this allow people on 3.6+ OFW (that can't downgrade -> series 300x) install a DEX fw via flasher to play all the games up to 3.55 from a usb HDD?

If this is possible, then this leak will allow a lot of people stuck in OFW!! I can't believe nobody mentioned this before.

So, the question is: ¿do you need to be already on 3.55 CFW to convert your PS3 to a DEX?

I think you are not reading what I've just wrote. New PS3 are stuck on newer firmwares. So, no homebrew and no backups.

If new PS3s can become DEX ones then it would allow homebrew and backups (although not for new games) for everyone not just the lucky ones on 3.55.

Has anyone succesfully converted using these instructions? ill maybe give it a go when my gf leaves for the weekend, spend some time with this, tinkering is always fun.

The lack of peek\poke.. didnt we have this issue early on with 3.55 also? and we had to run lv9? or maybe that was something else..
But if so, couldnt we just run that package? until a more permanent solution surfaces.

someone who have converted should also try out the TB eboots, who knows, maybe the dongle activates some kind of semi-DEX status.. probably not, but not much too lose trying IMO.

The lv2 pkgs of old won't work until someone can dump lv2 and map it. then the patches would need to be rewritten. If you run a TB eboot it will point you to what the eboot is calling to before it crashes then it is a place to start looking. I ran one and watched and last call was to libsre.sprx and libsre then crash.

My one thought is if someone understands the structure of an EBOOT well is to write one that can be used to launch a retail EBOOT. So you would have a fself that launches a self and it MAY trick the ps3 into thinking it is still an fself and then you can generate a coredump and grab the EBOOT from ram while it is decrypted.. just a thought.

Do I sense animosity? I was just curious who exactly High Lords were, though I had an idea, so I just wanted some clarification. I'm fully aware that we have some devs (who not always for unjustified reasons) have this high and mighty attitude, but hey my remedy is to not pay them any attention... I know obscurity is sometimes the best punishment for these "Lords".

But anywho, as I said, I'd love to see what the anti-piracy crew has to say about this. Not that I expect them, or think they HAVE to help out, but since the by-product "piracy" (according to what I've read) is the reason they won't help out... what would be the reason now? As I said, I'm not too concerned, if somebody doesn't want to help, then good, if they want to help also good... just curious as to what these guys actually think, like you I guess. I will say I'm not expecting anything though.

There's a line between being careful and just being a troll, and I think you crossed it; maybe it wasn't willingly, but you crossed it nonetheless. You are right now being just as bad as people who claim something is real when it isn't. You're acting as if you know for a fact that this is fake, and only because nobody that you consider a ps3 dev/hacker has come forward. Next time, I think it would be best to advice some patience and ask that people look before they jump... I'd like to believe that was the intention of your post, or maybe you only wanted to be a trolololololol

I've always said time and again that innocents shouldn't have to suffer for the crimes/stupidities/retardation/annoyingness/etc of the... well criminal/stupid/retarded/annoying. Interesting news. knew there was a way. i remember someone talking about the dex consoles had added hardware that the cex consoles didn't have and that was the reason why cex to dex conversions wouldn't work but after reading both this and the other thread, the truth finally comes out. i can see alot of people being mad because their main money making secret is out and everyone can do it.

I thought that jailbreaking was supposed to be fun and shared with everyone. i'm not naive though. but i remember a time back in the beginning of 2011 where everyone was sharing and the scene was the best scene ever then came sony lawyers, greed and sellouts. WOW.

Now spare a little time to think about this. Every time something new happens on the scene, there is always some GOD, GENIUS or DEV, telling you what it can or can't do, or telling you your heading down the wrong route, or your on the right track but the next step will be impossible without such and such.....

If they know so much why have *3.55 users been waiting so long to be able to play the latest game releases IF THEY KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS?

And if they don't have the answers, how can they then advise people that the route they are taking is the right way or wrong way?
