Hello all! I am new to any PS3 forum and this is my first post here of most likely many more to come.

I am the proud and somewhat fearful owner of a brand new, unopened, still in a sealed box CECHA01 Playstation 3.
I have had it for quite some time as you could imagine and am finally really starting to get the itch (if you know what I mean).

Along with this PS3, I have a few accessories/countermeasures, I'll list with pictures below. (Also I apologize if the pictures are too large, I don't know how to resize them.)

Also, not pictured I have a 1tb hard drive and new thermal pads.

My question is, it there like a mother of all firmwares out there?
I am not sure what firmware is on it but I know it has to be a small number (Due to it being a launch system).
Due to my "itch", one of two things is going to happen to this console.. Either I open it and ruin any value it has or I sell it for a decent pay off.
If I decide to open it, I must first know what it can be capable of and this is why I am here.
I also have a slim PS3 with 3.55, will this older PHAT be better in any ways?

better? no.

deal is this that machine can play ps2 games, and use otherOS and has sd/mmc card slot, but if you play long enough it brakes after an year or two.

Slims on the other hand do not, are cooler and work well, they don't have otherOS they don't have ps2 compatibility and they don't have sd/mmc card slot, but are a lot better and don't overheat, and with enough hackery slims can get otherOS.

So there are no advantages to having an earlier firmware version besides adding another OS?

With that liquid cooling setup, that PS3 should last forever. Pretty sweet. I'm jealous. :P

I thought so too but asked on irc and learned that water cooling can actually speed up the cracking of the solder etc. Don't remember the details though and don't know the facts about it but just thought I'd let you know what I heard.

I would say get it reballed and then water cool it.

My main concern is the firmware, I have already taken many precautions about over heating. I just want to know if the firmware makes it worth it to crack the seal on that box, otherwise if it just does the same thing as a slim can do on it's 3.55 firmware then I will just sell everything as a whole.

Lower firmware than 3.55, don't do anything special. Except other OS. But like stated above, you can do that on 3.55.
The advantages are the backwards compatibility, 2 more USB ports, and the SD card slots.

The disadvantages are that Sony spend way too much $ designing a console that has hardware flaws. The psu runs too hot in those models. Also they used crappy solder under the GPU and CPU, so the heating and cooling causes it to crack.

You may want to just sell it. You could get a good amount of $ for that setup.

Well crud, not what I wanted to hear. Haha.
From what I got out of a little research, there is no way to play newer games on hacked firmware, right?
I have a few newer games that I have not even opened because I don't want to lose my firmware so I think I need a second PS3 anyways..
Just don't want to use a what could be around a $1500 PS3 setup if it isn't completely needed...

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong about there being no spoof for newer/newest games.

yeah an unopened brand new CECHA01 runs about $1,200 USD on ebay last I checked.
