I think its same in principle but using usb loader over the disc icon, reminds me of DEV_hook from ooooold psp days.

Hm, but how? I don't see the possibility. Here's an example:
You have a 200gb hdd with all your data you dont't want to lose on it and an empty 20gb one. You are on 3.55 kmeaw.
Now, you change the hdd to the 20gb one and you upgrade to the special 3.55 gitbrew firmware for linux. There you do the conversion process. After that, when you upgrade to a dex firmware, you can't use your old 200gb hdd anymore, because 3.55 cex kmeaw is still partly installed on it and it will ask you to format it for you.

in the time of 3.50 / 3.41 up/downgrading i had to use 3 hdds to kep all data
one for each fw and one for the up/downgrade process

I think your right but my thinking is that you use the 2nd HDD for DEX Stuff because atm u can ony have one game at a time and that is from usb ( pendrive / hdd ) - so if you want to play your "old" games you have to insert the 1st hdd and when you want 3.6+ games you have to insert the 2nd hdd

edit: okay after writing this I came to the point where it doesn't seem possible to use the 1st HDD on a now DEX machine so you also have to go back to CEX every time?!

Get yourself a USB stick and follow this guide. Don't need to touch the partition on your HDD.
