I do miss the days when posts in any given thread were more commonly found to be ONTOPIC rather than this fuss. Oh well, had a good laugh with some of you, and many of you have a really strong point there..

So, ONTOPIC:
I have a problem. While trying to boot the http://gitbrew.org/~rnd/Linux-2.6.39-Rnd.iso written to DVD-R from petitboot, it reads for a little while (6 seconds) and then spits out "System is going down". I've tried with both the internal PS3 Bluray drive and with an external USB DVD-RW.



My Linux-2.6.39-Rnd.iso md5-sum is b93648ae2eb9a0020762e94ff18b473b

Problem unanswered, mainly because his post got flanked by mass and mass of offtopic talk about who's to blaim for that, the devs should be burnt alive, the TB dongle is the devil itself etc. etc...
So, maybe this time, someone has a possible answer ?
It's impossible to change to a new console and do a dmesg. the time is too short

Further investigating, I've managed to get a glimpse of /var/log/messages with tail -f while booting.

Nothing interesting.
Before actually selecting the debian image for booting the messages contain some complaints about bogus number of reserved sectors FAT and that it can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev ram X (5 7 ..etc)
After selecting the image for boot, i get these boring lines:
starting pid bla bla tty '/dev/tty2' : '/bin/ash --login'
starting pid bla bla tty '' : '/etc/init.d/rcS K stop'
received SIGTERM
Entering released state

Aaand the show is over

You might be right, but outing them risks p*ssing someone off, where as staying out of it all together as "really" its not your business is the safest way of no back lash from anyone except maybe a few of us noobs. The lesser of 2 evils maybe.

dlbogdan: may I ask why on earth are you trying to install linux when all you need is petitboot??? just go to http://rebug.me and download all the otheros preptools and install that way, then you can flash your nor directly from petitboot :P

As for the TB:

All I can tell you is that this scumbag owns cobra as well... makes you think how greedy this pig is seeing he could have put all TB functions into the cobra!
But I do not know who the coders are at all ;(

i think jailbreak original , corbra and tb are the same devs .

they made out corba and not a update jsilbreak dongle cos it got hack. they lose money on the jailbreak so they wanted to make more money so tb came and no update with corba

i swear i read ages a go they could make the jailbreak dongle work on 3.41+ . i think they learnt from there mistakes and sorted out so well tb , cobra came about .

Thanks evilsperm. I think if we can all reach the consensus (both devs and he sceners) to agree to disagree, we can all move forward (excuse the Kumbaya visualization this may cause). In terms of the squarepusher2 situation and yourself, I can't comment on it since it seems to be more deeply rooted on a personal level between you 2 with some history you share. As for the sceners, I think they need to tone it down and understand that without devs, we'd be ****ed for the most part. At the same time, the devs need to understand (I'm speaking in a broader sense, nobody in particular) they shouldn't belittle the people that for the most part appreciate everything they do for us. evilsperm, my only criticism for you is that you can come off as being a bit abrasive (for some valid points I can see, but abrasive nonetheless). At the end of the day, we're all in the same scene so we need to coexist. I'm not even against devs making money to be honest. They need to bring back the donation system and combine it with the honour system where they only get donations for work they've produced, rather than donations for work they're "going to do". It'll benefit the devs and sort of keep their whistles wet while they work, while also showing the true appreciation the scene has for their devs. For the people trying to flame evilsperm and devs in general as if they're all disposable, shove it up your asses. This whole time we've been under the general idea that Linux was needed for the CEX2DEX conversion, evilsperm just saved us a lot of headache with this comment he made.

Moral of my rant. We need to coexist if we're going to remain a scene. We need to help each other out while remaining civilized so we don't lose the scene all together. Both devs and sceners need to take a step back, take a breath, and come back in with a level head.

I don't want to get involved in this but i just have to say. Remember i don't even care about this DEX ,i have 4 PS3s & 1 OFW .So playing games = No issues here ! Only one thing is i do care about "THE MEMBERS" If i was 10yrs younger i would have prepared for the PS3 & done my homework to help where now nobody really does anything for the scene members anymore ,besides taking there money !

If i am not mistaken looks like some certain devs are mad cause the leak got out & now they are might be stuck on firmware 420 & can't update or play any new games past 420, like the rest of the PS3 scene members => Been stuck on 355 for "EVER" over a year, while people who had this hidden were probably playing new games till no end & did not have to buy a dongle ! On top of it look at the pattern = Every dev/team 1 by 1 ,started distancing themselves, as that was not noticeable & this only looks very suspicious & tells me 1 thing.

Most who have disappeared must have all joined hands & joined the DEX club ,while they advanced & left the entire scene behind that supported them till no end & defended the same devs who keep everything "GOOD/MOST ,USEFUL" to themselves ! If this really is the case all i can say is to the greedy ones/devs ? = How the ***K does it feel to know you might be stuck on a firmware like the rest of the PS3 scene ?

The thought of being stuck on a firmware & losing all the glory you had before being STUCK SUX DON'T IT !?!? No offence to the truthful devs ..

You know what I see happening here? Other than a few end-users casting suspicion/blame on some devs, the fighting has mostly been amongst the devs themselves re: this cex2dex leak... which gives me hope for this "scene". It means there are still "good guys" out there who want to end the BS once and for all. I was starting to think the whole damned works of them were somehow involved with TB, thank goodness someone finally stepped up to the plate (leaked the method) and thank goodness there are some devs supporting the leak.
My opinion is, and always has been if you hack stuff, do it because you love doing it, and share everything you've learned, regardless of outcome. Graf followed this motto, and he got royally screwed by sony, but you know what? He is a legend now. Not a shamed and discredited sellout/scene leech. I have a pretty good idea what some of you 1337 "devs" have been doing the last year or so, and so do a lot of others. What now? Your game is up, the gravy train just derailed, and there are motherf*ckers in this scene who *will* name names. Do you think FairyOpa will ever be welcomed into *any* scene, *ever* again? He's the most public figure in the hall of shame at this point, but us curious types can be very inquisitive. You people chose money over e-fame, and sure, you sucked a bit of money out of fools and noobs, but us smart folk knew this was f*cked from the get-go. And now you all need to just go away. I have no doubts some of you will pop up in future scenes with new handles, ready to corrupt/steal/impede/take advantage of, but just remember, we're f*cking watching you, and we don't forgive or forget.
