I'm almost going nuts over this but somehow it's still fun ;>

First I tried to use the "original guide" here -> http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/Metldrpwn
but when i want to boot linux-rnd via petitboot my tv gets disconnected

Then there was mentioned that you can also use Red Ribbon RC5 - so I booted this fine via usb disk and installed it to an external USB hdd. Then I wanted to use the install.sh script mentioned earlier but http://gitbrew.org/~rnd/linux-2.6.zip is offline. Okay so the alternative would be to use the debian-installer-2.sh script by nikitis but after executing Red Ribbon is unable to boot from petitboot because there is no option for it.

Then someone told me you can just go to "exit to shell" from petitboot and execute metldpwn from there. But I don't have "make" or "apt-get" there so how do i get the make essential?

Help would be really appreciated when there is a maybe linux noobfriendly and bulletproof way

At the bottom of the screen I see

<select> <exit> <help>

Should I click on exit and continue following the script?

Also from the original leak thread from ps3 news:

1. yes I ran it on CFW-OTHEROS++-SPECIAL with SS Patches with Ubuntu manual install.
2. metldrpwn generates a "dump" file and you need to open it in HEX editor, firsts 3 lines are the "eid_root_key.bin" required by c2d.exe.

For games that haven't any update we can install them on a CEX PS3 and copy the game data folder (/dev_hdd0/game/GAMEID/), then with "psn_package_npdrm" we can make a PKG with the game data to install it on a DEX, I think that this will work.

Updates with EDAT installed before converting to DEX works fine, tested on 4.10 game 'meikyuu touro legasista', which works from usb just fine.

After all that and after the script is executed, compile metldrpwn on 2.6.39 (the compiled kernel resulted from the script), for that you need to set it to boot by altering /etc/kboot.conf with the last line you add being

Code:
test=/boot/vmlinux root=dev/ps3dd1
change the name of the vmlinux-2.6.39 kernel on /boot to vmlinux, and boot it on petitboot.

after booting, you can finally compile the metldrpwn. don't forget, you need your own metldr for this.

finally execute run.sh, and after that if the problem status is 0x00000089 on output, that means you'll have a clean dump. after copying that dump to windows, copy the first 48 HEX bytes into an empty bin file . and you'll have your key.
After compiling the kernel, I got vmlinux-2.6.38, not vmlinux-2.6.39. Anyway, renamed it to vmlinux, edited kboot like you said. Then when i boot it from petitboot I get a black screen. Can you please tell me what Im doing wrong?

BTW loving linux on PS3. Didnt think it would be this smooth :D

Time for some more advanced questions before i jump on this bandwagon. I guess this is directed mostly at those who converted already.

- Any protips for NAND users? (cechg04 here)
- So we can't sign up for sp-int. Too bad..
- But we could change environment to prod-qa?
- ..and sign in with a prod-q account online (on 4.x firmwares)
- Can we access prod-qa shop?
- If we're on 4.x dex fw, can we say, run an original 3.70 game (from disc), download updates, go online in prod-qa and play with normal users?
- Anybody try ReactPSN to generate edats for demos yet? (not hook into system/vsh, just generate edat on dex..)
- Does stuff like ftp server work?

What I meant was I thought it was stupid you should have to hack the hell out of it, and maybe it would be more reliable to just solder the Progskeet.

I was able to get some nand dumps with it. After severely modifying it and using spring clamps to hold it onto the nand. I just haven't used it enough yet to get the hang of it, I guess.

Sure I had to modify my e3 nor clip a little. But with just a few scrapes off one side, I am able to tape the clip on any nor model ps3, and get a good dump first try.
Oh I didnt mean to come off as offensive. To each his own and what ever works for you is all that matters. I was just pointing out that the 360 nand clip isn't useless.
