Disable HDCP?

Most of the threads I find are very old so I would like some clarification.

I do not want any features on my PS3 besides being able to disable HDCP on my PS3 (to allow HDMI capture with my capture card). Nothing else concerns me in regards to modifying the system (I understand I will lose PSN access).

I am under the impression that the only way to do this is to install CFW and if so, what do I need?

This is impossible to answer without knowing which system you are on now, FW -and hardware wise.

It would be latest FW I am on (40gb PS3) but I was more just wanting to know if I could disable HDCP when I got a console of an earlier firmware of what I would actually need to achieve this.

you will not be able to disable it even if you convert your ps3 to debug ps3(more possibilitys are open but not this one)
use yuv to vga converter or hdfury and no need to jailbreak

You can get something called HDfury, I hear that is what people use to bet by the HDCP handshake.

you can disable HDCP on converted PS3, just use target manager and edit the xmb settings at (release/software mode) then reset into that mode with target manager.
