Would like help on jail-breaking my PS3 *noob alert*

Hello PS3hax members, after much debating I decided to jailbreak my PS3, also , sorry for long/jumping post, I tried to organize it, I really did!

I'm doing this for 1 main reason.

I have Tales of Vesperia (Japanese import game) and I want to install the English patch so I can play/understand it on my PS3.
[Yes I know it's in English on the xbox360 already, I have that also (Tin/limited edition), but want to play the PS3 version because of the new character/content added.]
*my PS3 will be jailbroken just to play imported games (for English patches) I don't really plan on playing backed-up games or anything on it*

From what I can tell, you can't just 'patch' games, and still use the PS3.

All I know is that I need to jalbreak my PS3 and put customized firmware on my PS3, but that is all I know.
After much research, I found that the PS3 firmware is based/locked on the motherboard of the PS3, the empty 320GB 2.5inch Sata HDD I have laying around is not going to work.
*I was hoping to swap HDD, one use on-line, the other off-line, O well.*

I have read a few articles, 'itskamel's NOOB JAILBREAK GUIDE' to name one, so I sort of understand what I need to do.

Info about my PS3:
Firmware v4.11
Model: 80GB
# of Front USB ports: 2

IIRC: I have to get the firmware to v3.55, to jailbreak it, right?
How do I downgrade?
Possible without opening/soldering(sp?) parts (I can do it if need be, but not really good at it)

If I absolutely have to, I'll buy another PS3 and hope the firmware is low enough to do this.

*I'm also trying to read all the tutorials/stickied topics here as well, so might take a bit before I post back, sorry.*

Thank you in advance!

BTW - I did find this:
Jailbreak 4.20 firmware ps3 jailbreak 4.20 Sony update 4.20 PS3 4.20 DOWNLOAD - YouTube

BUT, the file is password protected and you have to do one of those 'surveys' to get the password, so I bet it's fake. But all posts (except ~3 that the author deleted) all say it works, so a bit confused on that.
If anyone knows if that is real or not, please tell me.
(PS3scene status says it isn't real, but never hurts to verify from others)

Thanks for that information.

After seeing the banner on this site, I though it was fake, but wanted to make sure.

I sort of figured it would be hard to downgrade, and I might have to physically/open mod my PS3, but if that's what I have to do.
What do I need to do/get/recommended to do this?
*I'm willing to open/souder(sp?) if I have to, just as long as I don't brick it*

Also: I hear v3.55 is recommended a lot, but isn't v1.43 (forgot exact # I read) jail-broken, but still allows you to get on Playstation Network?
*Would that work for me, since I plan to only install English patches and watch Netflix (if available)*

@John135 state the model of your PS3, you can use E3 flasher to downgrade or if you want to solder (depending on the model of your PS3) if it's NAND or NOR. You will have to have some soldering skills.

No boobs on the banner, no read. I will implement a boobs section with a thread about all this. So the new users will read eventually something....(i hope)

First off, 3.55 means no PSN, which in turn means no Netflix.
From your first post I take it your PS3 is a FAT NOR model (but the actual model number is good to know, it's on the back sticker, the last part of the serial number, starts with CECH), so E3 flasher would work on it. E3 flasher is a tool (a little on the expensive side, $85 IIRC, you also need a second HDD but you appear to already have one) that allows you to downgrade your PS3 and dual-boot (swap between CFW and OFW), which would allow you to keep PSN/Netflix access while being able to use CFW. However it requires some tinkering (soldering to the mobo, although only one or two wires, and cutting a track on said mobo, and patching the NOR flash, not extremely hard if you follow a tutorial). If this isn't something you can handle, maybe you can have a professional do it for you but this would cost you even more ^^"

Now, about playing fan translated games. The main issue with PS3 CFW is that you cannot play any game that requires firmware 3.60 or higher (if you get E3 installed you can, but in OFW mode, so no translation patches). That includes 95% of the games that have been released after April-May 2011. So if I were you I wouldn't expect games released after that date to get a translation patch, unless higher firmwares get cracked open.
I also cannot think of any Japanese PS3 game that has a fan translation besides ToV (good choice btw ), and ToV's is far from complete, right now there's only a menu patch available.
Up to you to decide if it's worth shelling out the money for.

I have soldering skills, not perfect, but I can do it if it's only a wire or two (will they be permanent wires or only temp?)

Thanks pereb27, didn't know exactly what part of it was the model #.
OK, got that information:
Model #: CECHK01
Also: I really only plan to play ToV on this PS3, and that it.
I don't think any of the other few PS3 games I own (only have a few) have a firmware update on them or not, how to do I check?

I also did some searching and got some files, but don't know if I need them or not:
* Ps3 Downgrader Files [Attached file 'DGF.JPG' for info]
* EOBDII FLASHER1250.rar [Attached file: 'EOBDII FLASHER1250' for info]

*BUT I won't try anything until I get information from this board on what to do.*

Thanks again and sorry for the questions, still learning here.

You can use E3 flasher, since your model has NOR. Only thing you need just in case is do the tristaste to SBE in order to avoid some problems in the future.
So you are good to go.

Don't install any .PUP or use youtube videos to downgrade. You have tutorials here and in my sig link to ps3devwiki.

Regards

P.s: The model of your PS3 or manufacture date, etc it's on the rear close to the AC connector. And check the SKU models on ps3devwiki for better reference.

You have a NOR PS3 so you can use E3 Flasher (solderless) or Progskeet if you don't mind soldering.

I would worry about the files once you decide which hardware flasher you're going to get.

Check here for most games playable on 3.55 with or without a Dongle:
