IMHO $ony has won this console battle this time.

they secured their system very well. only a few cracks managed to hack it (and are obviously not willing to share their knowledge out of the antipathy of being sued/piracy and because of their egoism).
it do not condemn them for making money with their knowledge (see True Blue).
But what is really effed up: milking the consumer by releasing various dongles under various names just in order to maximize profit.
well, the scene has already come to an end long ago and $ony just wanted to secure the ps3 till its life cycle is over (which should be in the next year).
after that why should they care any longer if the keys are found? they just don't.
it does not matter if the keys are found in 2-3 years. who wants to play ps3 games then?
just look at the PSP. $ony does not care a bit that it is widely open. the console is dead for long, so they couldn't make profit even if the PSP wouldn't have been cracked till now.

http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_utili...onsola_1731797

The thing is:

The key we are looking for is 256 bits long. That is, there are 115792089237316195423570985008687907853269984665640564039457584007913129639936 possible combinations. In scientific notation 1.157920892e+77.

Trying keys combinations at a speed of 1000000 keys/second (which would be insanely fast) you would need 1.157920892e+71 seconds to try them all. That is, several times the age of the Universe (4.339 e+17 seconds).

Now suppose you gather 10 million people that want to try out your program and collectively brute force the ps3 keys. At a speed of 1000000 keys/second (for each people running the program) you would still ned 1.157920892e+64 seconds to try all the possibilities. That is exactly 2,668635381e+46 times the age of the Universe.

Well, as you can see, brute force is not the solution. You would need to be EXTREMELY lucky to hit the key.

You have much bigger chances of winning the lottery, becoming rich and creating your own game console company. Believe me.
Damn! xD, maybe Alien's technology will help us someday LMAO! Thanks for the informative post =P

SeeYa!

But who says the keys wouldn't be found during the first days?
I think a possibility is to calculate the keys, not bruteforce it it's just timewasting.

AES permits the use of 256-bit keys. Breaking a symmetric 256-bit key by brute force requires 2128 times more computational power than a 128-bit key. A device that could check a billion billion (1018) AES keys per second (if such a device could ever be made - as of 2012, supercomputers have computing capacities of 20 Peta-FLOPS, see Titan. So 50 supercomputers would be required to process (1018) operations per second) would in theory require about 3×1051 years to exhaust the 256-bit key space.

Goodluck.

excellent idea! i like it very much! should keep devs and normal users better together and so anyone can help! i would give it a try and let my pc run 24/7 i got an old p4 around he could help to my webserver could also help :D i mean what to loose, some pennys for power but thats all! the sooner we start the sooner we gonna know brute force has a 100% success rate if proper used and no failure is made :D

i think if we can get a mathematical methode : Dichotomy
we will get key in less than one month
how it work:
the program to crack keys split ALL the possible keys to two parts and tell only wich part the key IN then repeat the same procedure.this will reduce the part that contain keys to reasonable one
its the same procedure the solve the most complicated equations so why not give it a try ?

how is it gunna split the possibles keys , when it wont know which is a possible key and non possible key

i mean by possible keys all keys from 000000000000000000.... to FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.......
i can only use analogy here:
in the most complicated mathematical equation we cant know wich is the solution at all but we can know wich part it exist (of course by using some specific operations)
