Yeah, and what can Sony do? If DEX automatically communicates with [home base] then it's the fault of whoever ran it connected to the net that their identity is now in a database.

I don't see how Sony could close the doors that have already been open other then the normal way of releasing updates so that people who update are blocked - which is what they do now with their firmware updates.

Like I mentioned in my long article 3.55 users are a minority and are for the most part smart enough not to use upgrades.

This entire thing poses little threat to Sony as-is - unless these DEX machines carry some super secret in them that would allow the masses to utilize their 3.55 CFW to boot <=4.11 games. Then Sony would have a problem, but that so big as figuring out how to get my lil' old OFW 4.21 to boot backups.

Where did the hashes for the PUP come from/file info etc? Are they made up i.e placeholder or you know someone with the 4.20 DEX that passed this info on to you?

UPDATE - OK, got some more info. Apparently this will presently only work on consoles already using older, custom firmware, dramatically under-cutting its potential for widespread use. Also, the laborious process described in the link below has since been slightly automated.

I sure hope for Sony sake they don't step there dirty shoes & stink of dirty money in the scene again .I believe it will be bad for them & certain group might decide to hurt them again. If Sony were to mess with the scene & this did happen = The deserve everything bad that happens to them =Hacked again for messing with freedom/the people /the customers.

Hey defyboy, if I go into Debug settings and try to set "Update Server URL" to http://www.ps3devwiki.com/files/firm...updatelist.txt the URL seems to be too long... it stops accepting input at http://www.ps3devwiki.com/files/firmware. Is there any way around this? Would be cool to update directly in XMB from your server, rather than download, copy to USB, etc.

i dont really see what all the fuss is about, obviously sony was going to find out about this sooner or later.
come on people it seems that everything has to be some sort of drama whether its the devs not releasing their finds, releasing them to early or not releasing anything at all.

look at the bright side this information's out and we have a whole lot of stuff to catch up on.

and yeah it sucks that sonys going to do fw updates and restrict there 4k model even more but whats new. i dont see the point in picking apart every situation just to find something to complain about. this isnt really going to effect us and i pretty sure they have ended their attempts to take devs to court and if not theres one argument that is needed "why have you not sued true blue!"

i think the best bet is to just enjoy the release! but hey if u really need something to complain about then knock ur self out, we all need to vent our rage someway or another :D

Why you little.... LOL! Yeah you're right, I sometimes forget the little people that had nothing to do with sony's shiesty ways. Basically I just wish the worst on anybody who can make decisions, both those that made these stupid decisions, and those that just stood by and didn't say anything. It's unfair of me to indirectly wish ill on the janitor, the security guard, the cafeteria lady, etc... still I know deep down I rather see them go belly up (I'm a nice enough guy, but once pushed over the edge I can be quite the callous and even sadistic bastard).

I'm hope the little people can get jobs with the other tech giants should anything happen; I'm sure if karma was to give sony its just deserts every other worldwide manufacturer of electronics would go on a mad dash to take sony's install base.
