Devs still withholding critical information
Hello guys, in one of the threads i was reading someone quoted this very interesting tweet from marcan42:
@marcan 42: @zecoxao the bootldr keys are just as fail as the metldr keys, it's just that people suck at extracting them (no, don't ask us) Now, if what he said is true, wouldn't that be something even more important than CEX2DEX? As you can see from the flowchart HERE, having the bootldr keys equates to completely pawn any 3.60+ PS3 and most probably to a real cfw. It's pretty easy to see,by reading that tweet, that the devs(or at least some of them) know how to decrypt the bootloader but they refuse to share the method. I won't say that the devs should just give us the keys or the full method to obtain them on a silver platter but couldn't they at the very least point us in the right direction by giving us some hints (and i mean REAL hints, not math style)? I mean, what's the point in calling themselves devs if instead of helping the community they just tease people and refuse to release anything useful. |

Maybe they wait for the new ps3 and then released it to the public...

Maybe but he could have at least given us some more bits of info instead of only saying that the method is as "fail" as the metldr exploit.

Perhaps someone with bootldr knowledge can look into implementing a similar fail as the original fail. At least we now know there is an existing fail

Failoverflow/Twiizers said they would never work on the PS3 again, so I doubt we'll see anything from them sadly.

Do we presume he knew there was a bootldr exploit from "way-back-when", or that its a new fail? Maybe he had a change of heart seeing the PS3 scene struggle?

After seeing what happened recently with the cex2dex leak i wouldn't be so sure since it seems that the devs were never going to release it...
From what i can understand once you pawn the bootloader it doesn't matter anymore what kind of model the ps3 is and even if sony could do something about it with the new console revision i think it's too late for them once they start the production process,so it's pretty useless to wait to release it . |

Bootldr has already been 'pwned' yes.
The scientific process doesn't really exist - the PS3 scene uses far more superior methods than that - 'standing on the shoulder of giants' doesn't exist - information should not be free because it's 'too dangerous' - even though detailed scientific articles about how to trigger an avian flu pandemic are now open source on the basis that it enables scientists to find a cure, but it's probably far less important in the larger scheme of things than 'stopping piracy' (read: keeping BDGen emu piracy to themselves). Also, I had to laugh when I read this quote from wololo's article about DEX enabling backups:
The 'cat is out of the bag' indeed, but not in the way the article might have intended it to be read. Last edited by Squarepusher2; 07-20-2012 at 03:33 AM. |
