Cannot fix RSOD
Hi,
I have a RSOD on my ps3 slim 120go with rebug 3.55.2 + v0.7. Two months ago, i managed to fix it with the lv2diag.self method. However yesterday, it came back, i don't know why. I was just playing zombies on black ops then i rebooted and got the rsod. So i tried to do the lv2diag fix again, but it only worked for 2 minutes. I also tried the no rsod.pup + the pkg, the pup allows me to bypass red screen and to use the pkg but when i reupdated to kmeaw, rebug, ofw, i got rsod again. Then i took the basic_plugins.sprx from the no rsod.pup (the file which bypasses the rsod and allows the console to boot), and i made a custom rebug 3.55.2 with this file. Therefore, now i am stuck with this 3.55.2 modded. The .sprx mod have drawbacks, i cannot play games that have trophies and saves are not supported. Some say it could be a hardware issue that's why the rsod came back. But it seems odd ? the ps3 is working fine with the .sprx mod. I really want to fix this rsod problem, but how ? or at least making a firmware that allows me to play all games. Last edited by Enstone; 07-25-2012 at 04:57 AM. |

I read rsod(not fixable by update) is mainly caused by "vtrm" flash corrupted. Last edited by Enstone; 07-19-2012 at 08:23 PM. |

If RSOD keeps coming back, its a hardware problem. Most likely bad blocks on nor flash. Time to sell it and get a new one.

Sounds like something burnt out, Or you done some sort of soldering effecting a chip.
If you can install another cfw/fw and it gets a rsod after a X amount of time, It's a sign saying 'Put me in the rubbish'. That is of course "being able to do every solution/fix known".

Why would it be a hardware problem ? I have never opened my ps3, and the console perfectly boots if i use the firmware to bypass rsod. In fact, this rsod screen is just stupid, it prevents me to access the main menu with red screen.
Maybe it is an other region of the flash(not the vtrm) which is corrupted, are there tools for this ? Last edited by Enstone; 07-20-2012 at 09:03 AM. |

The reason you can can boot with the nootheros pup, is because is bypasses all the checks.
The problem is not because of taking your ps3 apart or soldering. It is because of a bad vflash caused by bad blocks on the nor chip. This is a common fail on Sony's part in models CECHK through CECHP.

So, i have no way to repair it with software ? No tool for uncorrupting my flash ? And at least, is it possible to mod this basic_plugins to make trophy and saves work ? Trophy errors prevent some games from working. Because even if i have bad blocks on my nor, i don't see any issue except red screen, i can play games that don"t need trophy, i can use every option in the ps3 xmb. This red screen is useless... I made some other tests:
*I dumped my NOR. with this dump_flash.pkg on devwiki, then i did the lv2diag.self fix, then made an other dump of my NOR. But the 2 dump are exactly the same, the lv2diag has not done any modifications on the nor. (Even if the rsodfix.txt report says everything has worked) *I also tried the rsodfix.gnpdrm.pkg (with basic_plugins mod to boot), i can launch the pkg, but immediately the ps3 directly shutdowns with beeps and a flashing red light. -->So i think the pkg has not done any modifications to the nor to. Maybe i could directly fix the rsod by modding my NOR dump by hex editing and reflashing it (with jaicrab preloader ?) ? Is it possible or will i have a brick ?
