Ok, i already got dex flash dump, but I didn't flash it yet. I have some questions to ask:

1. It's there any method to verify that my dex dump is ok and it won't brick my console?

2. You can't play 3.55 backups the old way (with Multiman) on 4.11 dex, only on 3.55 dex with peek and poke, right ?

3. I have backward compatible ps3, so will it be possible to play ps2 games on dex ?

4. What about remote play? I am going to buy ps vita, so I am really interested in this.

5. What about going back to cex? I read that OP broke his console while doing this. So is there a safe way of doing so ?

Thanks.

I tried the method that "jennys" suggested and instead of using lv2diag_exit.self, i edited the "advanced.cfg" and made it to where the system exits out of service mode without using the "lv2diag_exit.self". Just wish you were made aware of it before you bricked.

Dude, your PS3 system bricking did not happen in vein, those of us that have a NAND flash thank you profusely for helping us make the conversion.

Once more, thank you very much @CaptainCPS-X !!! you are a hero and a legend in my mind forever (unless someone claims that you stole their methods or whatever else drama people like to start, and I'm pretty sure you asked permission before you made the guide, you never have been fake as far as I could read.)

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, love the books.

Where capt. says he messed up is when he went to take the PS3 out of service mode and use the lv2diag.self from the DEX once his ps3 was re-flashed to CEX.

He was successful, but the wrong lv2diag.self caused the brick. One little mistake can ruin your PS3, so follow ALL STEPS ONE BY ONE!
thats the point.. if i understand correctly there is a difference in using this 2 packages:

FactoryServiceMode.gnpdrm.pkg for CEX and
FactoryServiceMode.pkg for DEX this is from the readme-file of the package...

i used the one for DEX yesterday on my CEX.(didnt read the readme.. just tried it out... )
. .it worked and have no problems... also i used the lv2diag_exit which was generated on usb, renamed it and break out the FSM with it!!!

Can you explain the difference?

btw.. HGTTG i love it too :-)

Nevermind, you were successful in getting out of FSM with that file, but thats what capt. said he used and bricked his PS3.

I am guessing that you can instead edit the advance.cfg and change the option to exit out of FSM to true because you do NOT want to use that .SELF that was generated from the DEX version of FSM.

Help me if I am wrong, Captain!

hm.. you have confirmed you did CEX2DEX and back DEX2CEX with this tut.. but without using the exit-self cause you changed the config-file

and now you write that you guess it worked with changing the file?????
have you really tried it out?

i am confused with this FSM-Thing... i checked again my PS3 and the DEX-Version is already installed... and it worked... on my CEX 3.55
wanna DEX the console this night and go back to CEX than.. just to know i can do it...now i stop it cause the danger of bricking....

I said I was guessing, Captain CPS-X was the one who wrote the tutorial. I took a guess at something.

If you have your system to DEX, there really is no need to go back.

for your NAND the only chance you got is with progskeet i think.. infectus seems to be no more available.. ... and really bad.. the tutorials for progskeet seems to be very bad.... if you wanna test take the solderless cable-kit with it.. but also you have to solder some things on the progskeet itself.. you can read it on the progskeet-forum on their website...

Good Luck for ya... maybe you get another hint here....

i have understand your posts that you have converted to DEX with that tutorial.. never mind.. i missed it ;-)

but also i see that this way could lead in bricks easy.. i will wait until the "without-Linux-Installing"-Method is working safely and the way to go back is confirmed..

My Intention to do the conversion is to learn about it and if my console is on DEX 4.11 i wanna test my house of the dead 4.pkg file... cant get it to work on my 3.55 :-) tired so many things but nothing worked.. i can install it.. but then the message to update comes and thats it... ok.. little off-topic now ;-)

Hello,

First of all many thanks to CaptainCPS-X for his effort in simplifying the procedure of CEX2DEX conversion! Thanks a lot mate!

I have a quick question, i just finished rewriting the modified flash. The result is that when i turn on my PS3 it turns off automatically after about 5 seconds without showing anything on screen. No yellow or red blinking, just off!

My guess is that my ps3 is officially bricked, right?

Thanks in advance!
