hi,

another question, how do you creat excetly a partition
with Linux.

11- During partitioning you can resize the default /dev/ps3dd1 partition from to just 4GB (4096MB), It will speed up installation/formatting (all will take less than 5 mins)

Also you do not exit FSM til you install a CEX firmware. that is why the console is bricked.it's not in FSM running a Debug firmware on a retail machine. to fix it try an FSM dongle and doing as I said.

I'm not sure but pretty close that the file that the FSM pkg creates is the same no matter what.
Thats the point... not leaving FSM until finished up the install process..

VERY IMPORTANT. Thanks for the info..

The exact problem was this:

MY DEX-TO-CEX BRICK

- PS3 supposedly went out of FSM based on the generated "factory.txt" log file, but then I got a Blinking Red Light.
- PS3 got bricked "apparently" by using the wrong "Lv2diag.self" to exit FSM, I was supposed to use the one for CEX, not DEX.

I will put this information in the main thread as a Warning so people don't make the same mistake.

My recommendation is that if you go to DEX, stay on DEX until it is officially confirmed that you can safely go out of DEX on NANDs.

EDIT: Updated main thread with this information.

SeeYa!
The problem which causes all the bricks is flashing the whole NOR/NAND. You didn't do anything wrong, except for that. Chance to succeed is less than 10% when you overwrite the flash - in the other 90% the coreos region of the flash gets corrupted and bricks the PS3. Even with the original dump you may not be able to recover the brick, unless someone "fixes" it (it was done with NOR dumps).

Just a warning to everyone: do not flash the whole NAND/NOR - use a tool to flash only the changed EID0 sector. If you remember the post from @evilsperm - he flashed the EID0 from petitboot, but ONLY 64KB (which is also not necessary). So either use petitboot to flash the eid only or multiMAN, which does it properly (a lot of people converted with no problems).

Thanks for the information man!

I am now trying to find a good "COK-002 / 1-873-513-31" replacement for sale, for my CECHE01. I just don't wanna mess with Progskeet, not feeling in the mood to go through all the process LOL!

I found a CECHA01 without HDD and BD-Drive (Drive Board is included) so I might get that and come back to the hacking scene movement haha!, at this moment Im using my OFW NOR on 4.11 =P

SeeYa!

Thanks!

It has been a pleasure to collaborate and help so many people! I really wanted to finish my guide to come back to CEX from DEX, but I got unlucky in the progress.

As soon as I can get a hacked PS3 once again I will start collaborating with more stuff

SeeYa!

A guy on another forum got brick (NOR) few days ago when he tried to return to CEX, even though he stated that he used MM for flashing both times. He was on 3.55 DEX so he didn't install 3.55DEX_downgrader firmware. Maybe his original NOR dump was wrong though or something...

Note: In your USB storage device there will be a file called "Lv2diag_exit.self", this will be used later to exit FSM.
Guys, help please! I got FSM and everything is ok, but there's no such file on my USB device! In windows settings everything is ok too: hidden and system files not hidden.

He got a brick, because he felt over-confident and started messing with stuff (although he was getting errors going back and forth between firmwares). mM does the job properly. I personally went from cex->dex, dex->cex, cex_EUR->cex_USA, cex_USA->cex_JAP, cex_JAP->cex_EUR. It is safe. Squarepusher also used it to convert one of his CEX ps3s to dex.

deank, could you please edit your guide a bit to make it more straightforward?

I mean mainly that big "notes" section before actual walkthrough. If the "notes" are prerequisites, than maybe better to move them to walkthrough so that it began from action 1) right away? Because now it's not clear from what exactly I should start...
