Yes it is possible, but it will cost ya...
You need to buy a Hardware Flasher like E3 or ProgSkeet, there is no software downgrade possible (Edit: plz click the PS3 Scene Status-bar for more info)

stated, but first in order to know if you can downgrade we have to know the model number of your PS3, like CECH-2001A.

On the back you will see a sticker. (Slim ones) or on the left side or right if it's a phat.

Its PHAT = it wont be a 3k so you will definitely be able to downgrade with hardware
