Bricked PS3 slim when going back to CEX
First of all I would like to thank you all for such a great webpage PS3Hax.net.
I've been here looking for news almost daily since I first got my slim with 3.40fw two years ago. Now for the first time, I have some serious issues with my PS3. When I saw the the CEXtoDEX news I quicly had to try it. I already had linux on my console so dumping the root keys from metldr were not such a big problem. I converted my console do DEX and were happy with that for a week. Going up and down from 4.11 to 3.55, making 3.55 with peak and poke etc. I then got to brave, and wanted to be able to easy go back and fourth from DEX to CEX. Only reason I missed my CEX console is that I have Cobra key, so I'm then able to load bluray Iso's and game Iso's over my Gigabit LAN. I found a guide on a Italian site showing how to "Easy convert DEX back to CEX" . This is how I bricked my console. Now when I try to turn it on it beeps once like normal, but then after a secound it shuts down, and no light on the led. Not even red light. So my question is this. I have a valid dump of the NOR that I made when converting to DEX, is it then easy to unbrick my console with a hardware flasher like e3 flasher? I know I will probarly have to soldier some in order to keep the power on the console for the flashing. If anyone can answer me this i will be very happy. If it's possible I will order E3 flasher today' Regards |

How exactly you tried to convert DEX->CEX? Such info is useful to prevent other bricks. |

to resume all i did to fix the problem, i guess there´s no need for a tutorial since i tryed every **** i could
stuff that you need dongle to go to factory mode ( used E3 Card Reader ) USB Flash Pen ( help if it have led status to check if its working and ps3 is doing his stuff ) alot of PUP - Tryied 3.41 modified , Dex 3.55 Downgrade, Kmeaw 3.55, and original PS3 3.55 ( thi one that gave the result ok ) Format USB PEn and put lv2diag.self file 1, check ps3wiki i posted before, download the one that is green, also put PS3UPDAT.PUP in the root of the PEN LV2diag.self and PS3UPDAT.PUP must be in the root of the usb pen ( format it to fat 32 ) switch off ps3 from power cord put Dongle with service mode payload in the right usb port ( next to BD/power ubtton/eject button ) put power cord in the console and press power button followed with eject, the console should boot, and then reboot without any beeps that we have with the brick ) remove service dongle and in the right usb port ( next to BD...) put the usb pen already formated to fat32 and with the 2 files inside. if all went well you shall see the ps3 reading stuff in the usb pen, and the hard drive of ps3 working, wait for the console to power off. at this point you can power again and check if the console boot up and its inside factory mode ( red square box in the bottom left of the screen ) all you need now is to blank usb pen and put the lv2diag.self in the usb pen, power off ps3, put usb in the right port with the file already on it, and do a power up procedure, the console will power off automaticly. power again and get unicorn, lolz. go to for files, if oficial doesnt work try the roger noBD.pup http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Downg...her#PUP_to_use |

That won't work in my case, cause i have no power on the usb ports. So I guess my only chance is a hardware flasher. Here's how I did the DEXtoCEX: http://www.digitalangel.it/en/2012/0...icata-dex2cex/ It might just be for NAND console. Maybe that's why I bricked, but it does say in the guide put your NAND/NOR flash on usb stick |

if you have no power in the usb power, that means your bios is corrupted, so flash ruined, only chance is by a Flasher if you have a good backup.

you forgot (probably didn't know) to dehash or flash PUP with patched lv1 and lv2 to disable syscon hashes check, e3 flasher or progskeet is the way to go, follow this guide: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Downg...rdware_flasher
or ask on IRC #ps3downgrade for help... edit: I am not sure, but maybe when QA flag is set then DEX->CEX results in no brick Last edited by skalita; 07-25-2012 at 12:55 PM. |

you get a brick with multiman too if you are not on lv1, lv2 patched firmware, but you can recover by following

Did you not see the deank's tutorial for NOR flash? I hope you can recover your console
To get back to CEX/CFW from DEX: * Install 3.55DEX_downgrader firmware: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/files/firm...r/PS3UPDAT.PUP * Use your original NOR dump (my-original-cex.NORBIN) and rename it to (my-original-cex.EID0.NORBIN) * Double click on your CEX NOR file in mmOS (i.e. /dev_hdd0/my-original-cex.EID0.NORBIN) * Quit multiMAN, Reboot your PS3 and install OFW/CFW 3.55 from XMB |
