[TUT] How to use an Android Phone as factory mode dongle/service mode jig on PS3

After 14 hours of hardwork, I finally managed to Jailbreak and Downgrade by Cech 2001A 120gb Slim.

Please note you need to have prior knowledge as to how to root and bootloader unlock your phone and how to flash a custom recovery onto it.
All these details can be found on xda developers forum.

Also, putting the ps3 into service mode is a part of the downgrade process, do not and I repeat do not put your ps3 into service mode if you are not downgrading.

I used my Nexus One as a service mode jig or a factory mode dongle. Just wanted to share with everyone here how to do it.

First of all your phone needs to be rooted and bootloader unlocked, if you do not know how to do that head over to xda developers forum.

I used a custom recovery called psfservicemode created by Klutsh.

So all you need to do is flash the custom recovery onto your Android device, boot the phone into recovery mode and then navigate to psfservicemode settings option in the recovery and select the option to put ps3 into service mode. Once selected connect the phone using a usb cable to the usb port on the ps3 (the one near the blue ray drive) and turn on the ps3 and viola you are in factory service mode.

below is the list of supported phones.
HTC Desire CDMA (psfServiceMod-bravoc-2010-12-08.img)
HTC Desire GSM (psfServiceMod-bravo-2010-12-08.img)
HTC Desire HD (psfServiceMod-ace-2010-12-08.img)
Google NexusOne (psfServiceMod-passion-2010-12-08.img)
Evo 4G (psfServiceMod-supersonic-2010-12-08.img)
Motorola Droid (psfServiceMod-sholes-2010-12-08.img)
HTC Hero CDMA (psfServiceMod-heroc-2010-12-08.img)
HTC Hero GSM (psfServiceMod-hero-2010-12-08.img)
T-Mobile G2 (psfServiceMod-vision-2010-12-08.img)
Commtivia z71 (psfServiceMod-z71-2010-12-08.img)

Here is the download link to the file.

Thanks for the links - I've rooted/flashed the T-Mobile G2 recovery image onto my HTC Desire Z so that I can unbrick my PS3 as a result of the DEX-to-CEX roll-back.

Update: Here's a Mediafire mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/?pd3sk1vj6plyiy8

Thank you so much. My whole dilemma was that I didnt have a way to boot into factory service. Ive got to do some extra research though to find out if theres a way to do it on my Xperia Arc.

Else i'll have to borrow my buddies HTC. Lets hope he doesnt mind me flashing a different bootloader on his phone. Lol

@raddog & @stevorkz
Nope - there's no way you can enter into FSM via the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and the LG GT540 as Klutsh hasn't even got around to making a modified recovery image for these phones.

@stevorkz
What HTC phone does your buddy have? If it's the HTC Desire Z, then use the T-Mobile G2 recovery image, and if it's any one of the listed devices, then you might be in luck!

This is probably a silly question but would the Droid2 work instead of the Droid 1? All I have is a Droid2 .
