Not true, did it once and it worked just fine (besides correct me if I'm wrong but there's absolutely no reason as to why it shouldn't work). Just don't update past 3.55.

Anyway, if that PUP doesn't work, I'm not sure what will. You might need to get a flasher. I suggest trying a few firmares below 3.00. You never know.

EDIT : Alright, been looking on the net, this is a problem that has occured to users who didn't install CFW or anything on the console.
This might be a HDD or NAND issue. Have you tried to install a different HDD and try the same downgrade method yet?

Warning notes:

Do not UPdate in Factory/Service Mode (results in "8002f14e" error ), only downgrade or same version! Only UPgrade in Retail mode!

8002f14e is a BD drive related error... I dunno. It did work for me once. Maybe it works only under certain circumstances.

I do not have a flasher. I would have to buy one for a nand, which is in upwards of 75-80 dollars plus installation (more cumbersome if soldering involved) and I can get sony to repair it.

I don't think that is a good idea @JustThatDude , might break more than it fixes, with no point of return if the hdd cant be formatted in the ps3.

He could write 0's to the sectors so it completely erases it he could always back up his hdd before writing 0's.

put it in recovery menu and reinstall the 3.56 firmware just google where you can find it and make sure your hard drive is inserted all the way cause that's a data corrupt error
