CECHA01 Disc Game Icon missing
Hey guys, I recently got a CECHA01 model OFW 2.50 for 20$, lol i didn't think it was still working at first but it does. I flashed it with rebug 3.55.2 and installed update v7. No i just noticed that my Game disc icon wasn't there, i don't remember seing it before either, i tought it was i rebug feature or wathever. The PS2 game icon appears and launch with no problems but nothing with PS3 and PSX games. Was wondering if the drive was dead or is there a way to solve this? I'm willing to open the console if needed.

EDIT: In the mean time, clean out the system, replace thermal paste, etc, to help prevent YLOD from occurring (not a 100% guarantee, but it definitely helps). You can also remove the RSX IHS and replace the thermal paste to help even more, but beware, as with doing this, there is a chance that you will have to replace the RSX if you remove it incorrectly. If you do not know what you're doing, do not even try to attempt this. Even if you do know what you're doing, you have a high risk of damaging components. To remove the IHS, heat up the RSX with a heat gun (not enough to melt the solder underneath) and use a piece of plastic to slide under the left side of the RSX, then use a butter knife (do not put it in deeply) above the plastic, and gently pry upwards. Then proceed to clean the center dye, and the 4 RAM chips (the RAM chips don't matter that much, and are very hard to clean, so don't fret if not everything comes off) and replace with good thermal paste in the center, and adhesive on the RAM chips. Then proceed to place the IHS back on the GPU, and let the adhesive dry. You may then put the system back together. Last edited by iwasaperson; 07-26-2012 at 09:12 PM. |

Thank you for you recommendations. As for the RSX part i think i'll wait a bit. I only have a 40W soldering tip but i did open up a FAT CECHE01 model and reflowed the MB, changed the termal paste and cleaned it up, it did a great job and it's still running one year later.
I think i'll buy a new drive and remary it with my logic board, they're not too expensive, i'll surely change the paste from the cell CPU. I did upgrade the hard drive with a scorpio blue 500GB @5400rpm, i noticed that some folders were missing compared to the folder layout of my slim, all the dev_ folders or not there :/ is this unique to first gen consoles? They seem to be mounted only when there's something connected IE, sd/cf cards, etc. EDIT: nvm the last question lol juste realised i was using different ftp servers Last edited by danyboy666; 07-27-2012 at 08:15 PM. |
