Someone also mentioned to me a 19 blade fan for phattys helps keep them cool as well.
Am going to try again and get myself a 60GB BC console again.. US model this time.. Last one I bought supposedly had no attempts at repair on it until I got into it & the board was warped and scorched from a ****ty hair dryer fix > ![]() Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 |

i dont know rho perhaps its got all this hardware n blah blah blah but how many ground breaking releases have we seen??? uncharted pushed the bounds graphically but i can honestly say i had more fun on my ps1 and n64 even my ps2... but the ps3 had very little games that i couldn't play on the pc [with better gfx] and multiplayer is mostly online wich for me is major loss, so no i cant say it was the best and i could probably argue its one of the worst... i still have fun on it, but 90% of the time it sits around collecting dust... and it dosent cost much less than a pc gaming rig

Is true the CECHA has the most features (simply, because there are hardware parts that was removed in the next models)... but this is a compromise between what you want.... and the problems you will find to achieve what you want: -The annoying turbine fan, very loud, it makes the experience of playing a suffer (whoever that has never seen a slim working... i promise, they will not believe the difference... slims are 99% silent) -The overheating, is something that will kill the PS3 soon or later, and game over... (it doesnt mind if you do a correct reballing because the heat problem will be there forever). And we are talking about a not-modded hardware manufactured by a serious company and this is unnaceptable (the same idea can be apllyed to the dumbass engineers that designed the XBOX360 "fat" case btw) ------------ The removing of all PS2 hardware <----- was a technical problem, and the cause of the overheating and the turbine fan (not alone, but the most important one) The removing of the 2 USB ports <----- this is a nonsense, imagine you are sony and you need to buy HUGE amounts of USB connectors (like 5.000.000), the price of each USB connector is ridiculous, it can be like 0.2$ each (im serious, the price of the components when bought in huge bundles is ridiculous)... also, maybe this needs a "new" USB controller chip... but again the price is ridiculous... we are talking about 1$ in total The removing of the card reader <----- i dont understand it, for sure is more expensive to build that the removed USB ports.... this card reader was a separated board with several components... but the price difference has no importance (around 3$) ----------------------------------------- -----efficiency & overheating notes------- ----------------------------------------- --CECHG... removed all PS2 hardware... and replaced CELL (from 90nm to 65nm) --CECHJ... replaced RSX (from 90nm... to 65nm) --CECH20xx.... replaced CELL (from 65nm to 45nm)... and the turbine fan.... this is the first model of slim --CECH21xx... replaced RSX (from 65nm to 40nm) The real improvement was done in CECH21xx... the replacement of CELL and RSX (to 45nm & 40nm respectivelly) was a huge reduction in temperatures, fan speeds, and power compsumption (this can be translated simply as.... the life of the hardware is longer) http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models#Retail_Models ---------- Final note: I like the features of CECHA... but i dont want a hardware with this problems Actually you cant buy a new CECHA... so the only option is to buy an used one... and this is a bit kamikaze idea Also... i like modding and i have no problems with a solder iron, or working with alluminium or methacrilate... one option is to build a case with your own heat dissipation system... but this is something i dont like to do with a sony product There is no case manufacturer selling "improved cases" for PS3 fat, i dont understand it... i think is a good market Last edited by sandungas; 07-28-2012 at 11:13 AM. |

It's not a surprise to hear that the people who own the "slim" model will say that the slim is better. but i know. and most people around the internet know that the CECHA01 is the best. i had my cecha01 since 2006 and i never had any real problem.. it's true that the noise is bothersome but i don't hear it much because it's far away from me during game play and i have surround sound. but to me. slims is just like a ps2 that could play ps3 games. nothing special. The 60GB cecha01 model has every original feature that was planned.

Ok, this can be resumed as... you have no problems with the loud turbine sound... and you have no fear about overheating problems
But read the messages @japsander wrote in this thread, he "had" a CECHA |

Hmm I will happily continue this debate kind sir
as I have found something(s) that I would like to touch on.
, but the ps3 if cooled will still eventually die (in a CECHA01 sense, not sure on slims) as I have asked and apparently adding water cooling to a ps3 may even speed up the systems death. The problem isn't exactly the heat that is coming from the chips (if heat sink/fan is working as they should), its the solder that is holding the chips. Most if not all people who have gotten reballs have their system still in working order.

i have 60GB one and its making loud noise
ps3 slim+ps2 slim is better than backward ps3 if the temperatur of air is more than 27c then the fan make a real noise if its less than 27c i can play ok,maybe its the same for other people Last edited by furtsiv; 07-28-2012 at 12:40 PM. |

I kindly agree with your points gentelman and i argument:
This contractions/dilatations happens in all the materials of the PS3... after some hours playing, the case makes "pops" sounds (are the plastic parts that are moving) Weird... but this gives an idea of how the materials are deformed And yes, a reballing (with lead solder) is much better with deformations (the lead avoids a "crack" in the metal microscopically) In the end... a reballing can help, but the overheat problem will be there forever Edit: Btw... watercooling must be turned off at the same time the machine turns off... the hardware needs an slooooow time to return to "ambient" temperature... is a bad idea to keep the fans or wartercooling working when the machine turns off, because this creates a "temperature change peak" that can break the hardware (BGA solder balls with no-lead solder can "break")
Not a big problem in PS3... but it was something that was adding more heat to the system and probably a bit expensive What i think is the removing of the PS2 hardware... was the "easyer" way they found to reduce overheating... and also a way to reduce the manufacturing prices But it was not the main cause of overheating, because i have a CECHG (and a CECH25xx)... the CECHG is the first model without PS2 hardware... and replaced CELL (from 90nm to 65nm)... and the fan of this one is still a turbine... about heat i never meassured it, but i replaced the thermal paste with artic silver 5 (the original one sucks btw, and in mine was degraded) Last edited by sandungas; 07-28-2012 at 01:34 PM. |
