Something I sometimes have trouble understanding, the difference between NAND and NOR. Also, YLOD, RSOD, and other errors may be good for this list.

YLOD = yellow light of death: when you start up your PS3 and the LED indicator flashes yellow then the PS3 powers off. Usually caused by a motherboard or power supply fault due to overheating.
RSOD = red screen of death: when you start up your PS3 and the picture on your TV displays a red screen saying "A serious error occurred". <I need a reference as to what causes rsod> NAND = which stands for 'Not And': is most commonly used in PHAT SP3's NOR = which stands for 'Not Or': NOR is most commonly used in SLIM PS3's. (cheaper for production than NAND)

It s really great idea, and see if this glossary can be added to the ps3 dev wiki or link to the pages for more details.
The main page of the wiki can be a bit confusing when you start reading there. I ll try somes entrances for this glossary but please make it better/correct it. Disc.sfo File to prevent you have inserted the disc of the game you have installed from it. Param.sfo File who contains settings/parameters around/about the game such xmb in game, remote play, resolution, fw min game should use, region deny... Param.hip/his display the changelog of the game/homebrew from xmb. Param.pfd File used for secure the ps3 save data Ps3 disc sfo File used for activate subfolder of the game such update, extra, theme, videos and others. RCO file who contains icons, text and sound who appear on xmb but can not be modify from theme. P3T file format for theme. Can be dynamic and/or with differents backgrounds. You can create your own theme on any fw. Remote Play PSP, PSVITA, PC or phone used as sound/video monitor and controller for PS3 through internet connection on any FW. For less restriction from the official setting, you will need to use patch for PC or edit the SFO of the game or homebrew. Differents resolutions are available according to the FW but not all the games can function through this mode. Thanks for the idea and it can even be a nice homebrew as data base like the data base for metal gear solid. Last edited by Ada Love Lace; 07-29-2012 at 09:20 PM. Reason: remote play added |
