We made a lot of cool stuff on the Amiga. I was never part of the big releases myself, amongst other things I made an image conversion tool, but try this link and you can see some of the homebrew that was possible back then:

You are 100% correct. Sony have agreements with publishers to ensure the publishers IP are also protected, since the security is what they sell the PS3 licensing on. Even more, since online gaming is via the Sony network, they are also responsible to keep wannabe hackers at bay. Some contracts have heavy penalties if the publishers game are compromized and Sony didnt try to counter it within reason.

Take the Megaupload case for example. The FBI shut it down because there where some illegal material from a US citizen/artist/whatever. Ok, but why do the rest of the world has to suffer that shut down because US feels like it. I mean, they really think internet is only for US. Right? Because I can't find another explanation. This could easily trigger a new war.
In my opinion there isn't a US anymore it's more a Corporate state the government is just a figure head that occasionally tosses up random laws
corporations run this country that's why it's so easy for them to go into other places and shut thing's down. . . uhh anybody get what i mean >.<

I agree there, the USG has about as much power as the Queen of England. She doesnt officially run the country, but does in name only, she's more of a tourist attraction now.

That's close to what I wanted to say when I first read this post. I didn't comment because I didn't want to seem like I was being too patriotic or anything. The fact is that the United States government are the ones who paid for the research and development of the internet. So, they probably do feel somewhat responsible for it. That being said, I think the internet should be available for everyone with each country governing it's own people with it's own laws.

There is most definitely a US but corporations are the ones who decides what's legal and what's not. The corporations pay lobbyist, who in turn buy senators and congressmen for these corporations to vote in their favor. I don't want to get into a big political debate but it's common knowledge that this is mostly a conservative policy. Why does president Obama have to create so many jobs? Simple, because greedy corporate CEO's of yesteryear lobbied all of our jobs away overseas. A few corporate fat cats and congressman got rich at the expense of American jobs and the American economy and now they are hoping people are stupid enough to blame the black man for it. Sadly, a lot of them are.

The same thing applies to the internet with congressman being lobbied to make laws on it in favor of corporations but the American people have spoken and we do not want Sopa nor do we want corporations getting their greedy hands on our internet.

I hardly think it's an American thing only. Take the Pirate Bay for example. The major internet carriers of the UK has shut them down and it has nothing to do with the US. It's still legal to access TPB here and they have been found guilty by Supreme Courts around the world and not by the United States as of yet.

Statistics will show that despite piracy the number of record sells continues to increase each year in the United States.

It's obvious that $ony's loss in sales are due to their bad business practices and they way they treat their core customers. Even $ony will admit that used game stores has hurt their sales more than piracy has. I think that's why you'll find they have been eerily quite during these recent developments in the scene.

I apologize for the sloppiness of this post. I have an abscessed tooth and I'm all jacked up on painkillers. I found it hard to concentrate. Hope you can make sense out of it.
