It's only a rumor.

Cobra-USB already has PS2 game comptability if I'm not mistaken so he has no reason to implement a free version.

Select (Settings) > (Display Settings) and somewhere in there should be the option of changing your outputted display from 4:3 to 16:9 and vice versa.
