it backs up but dont wanna go through the downgrade process,i have downgraded plenty consoles with my e3 and thats the first time i spent 8 hours straight trying to sort this out on my own console,i did everything there is still getting metldr not supported and have came to the conclusion that sony blocked the e3 flasher downgrading exploit on 4.21 fw....so anyone who updates their 3.55cfw to 4.21 cant downgrade anymore with e3 flasher

DON'T DO ANY OF THE BELOW WITHOUT FIRST VALIDATING YOUR DUMP

I just downgraded a PS3 on 4.21, yesterday. And have done a dozen or so in the past few weeks. Until the last 3 I did, I always used the e3_downgrade.bin. But after trying the last 3 with the new Rogero PS3 Nor Dump Auto-Patcher v0.0.1, I love it and think it is a lot easier.

Download and use Rogero PS3 Nor Dump Auto-Patcher v0.0.1 to patch your backup and flash to your ps3, with all switches down (always flash patched backups with all switches down).
Then reboot your ps3 and you should see the connect controller screen. Even if it is a black screen, continue by cutting the power by the switch or pulling the plug.
Then do the Factory Service mode downgrade.

Or

You said you have a backup on 3.55?
Format hdd in pc to fat32.
Flash 3.55 backup in flash fun mode (1st switch up, the rest down).
Put all switches down and reboot ps3.
You should now get the recovery screen saying the hdd needs to be formatted and asking for firmware 3.55 or later.
Put Rogero v3.5 named to PS3UPDAT.PUP in the correct file path (PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP) on the root of your usb flash drive and insert into PS3.
Press start and select at the same time.
It will format the drive and install Rogero.

Which ever way you pick to do, make sure to dehash after. I dehash the Qa way. Can be achieved by following my guide below from Chapter 2, Part 2 "Qa flag"

I have done some research and it seems that many have problems with the One Key downgrade mode. It is strange to me, because I have never had a problem with it. Even on 4.21.

I think I am going to update my guide to use Rogero's PS3 Nor Dump Auto-Patcher v0.01. It is very easy and has worked great for me so far. I have done a few with it now, and all were very easy. One of them was a black screen when I rebooted after flashing. But continuing with the FSM downgrade anyway worked to downgrade.

I would of suggested this earlier. But for 1. I didn't know you had 3.55 backup. And 2. I have seen flashing a patched backup, after flashing e3_downgrade.bin, will make the USB ports go dead. But since the e3_downgrade.bin never flashed, you are safe.

sorry to butt in.

i looked at the paste @helsing9 posted and he says the dump he uploaded is 2.8.
wouldnt that point to a pin (data line) not touching propperly inside the clip?
and so not doing a full dump?

maybe he needs to take a close look inside the clip for:
a stuck / bent / damaged pin
or any damage to the flex ribbon cable
or the flex cable may not be seated in the flex clip on the pcb?

i'm not trying to step on your toe's i'm just looking at it from a different point of view

You can with the e3 linker. You get the linker when you buy a new clip. It is the E3 nor clip suit.

oh! i thought that came with the kit.
thats a pain. i have waited 4 weeks now for the E3 to come for my guide & now i need to order the suit!
they should include that in the kit as a fall back.
ah well.

now i see why @raddog didnt ditch the clip for a direct solder.
thats a pain really as he now has to wait with no ps3 for a replacement clip & linker or send it to someone to fix when its just 1 item he needs.
