Bluray Playback on DEX?

Hi All,

So, after seeing some questions regarding Bluray playback on DEX systems, I thought I'd start this thread to throw around ideas etc.

Anyway, we know DEX cannot play Bluray movies because the files are non existant in DEX firmware along with files such as vsh.self not having the functions in them (or disabled?) to allow it.

So, even if you resigned all the necessary files needed, you would still need to patch various system files (such as vsh.self etc) to enable playback.

So, any ideas on how to achieve playback on a DEX?

As far as I am aware, the drivefix in the first CEX/DEX leak only resets the drive back to default/factory (i.e, rewrites the HRL and DRL back to default values), it does NOT enable playback on a DEX unit.

If that is not true and you have tested it, please confirm it does in fact allow Bluray playback.

The other issue is newer AACS keys. The existing 3.55 keys are now redundant and newer Bluray will not play even on CEX 3.55.

This alone is another completely new challenge. To get the newer AACS keys, you would have to decrypt the relevant 4.21 files and then resign for 3.55 and quite possibly the Bluray drive firmware may have to be updated at the same time.

Please note:
I am NOT a Dev and don't have the faintest idea on how to do this!

No disrespect but threads like this are always non-starters.

When something is available, if it's available, it will be made available and front paged. Nothing ever gets done by people like us who can't even code let alone disassemble except wild suppositions and silly ideas that make the person look ignorant and very silly.

It's a nice thought that as a united group we can do something, sadly not the case though except on the odd occasion and where sights are set much lower. Like recently where @Asure made a batch file to call up scetool to find klicense to decrypt some sprx files. But even that is like a drip in the ocean compared to the coding that actually went into scetool that he had no part in. Not to disrespect his work, for a "layman" it's fantastic. But enabling bluray playback on DEX is something else entirely.

I can confirm that drivefix does not enable blu-ray playback on DEX.

It didn't even work for me. I got the red "NG" all 4 or 5 times I tried to run it, besides, my BD worked fine after converting anyway. (Not for movies, of course)

But interesting fact: My NOR CECHP01 (which I recently unbricked from a ylod dex->cex attempt) has dev_flash2 and dev_flash3 folders which I can access, and which still have the CRL/DRL/OCRL whatever stuff in them. My NAND CECHG01 still seems to have the folders, but they are greyed out in MM and I can't access them.

keys are both on discs as in BD firmware, so that a player can always play newer encrypted content as it updates its own keyblock with that contained on the disc (see AACS++ specifications and http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Talk:...tion_procedure)

I have been looking a bit more into this and you can get libraries from VLC to enable AACS and Playback which can be incorporated into media players such as mplayer/vlc etc.

VLC Git Page

Could it be possible to incorporate the relevant libraries into Showtime?

Using homebrew to play Bluray is better than no bluray.

I had to use the lv2diag.self that is 619kb
and the fdm_spu_module.self that is 29kp
and had DEX 3.30 on the drive
along with the cfg folder and manufacturing_updater_for_reset.self.

Any other way it would not say Pass.

But yeah, still won't restore BD playback.

I have always just ripped my blu-rays to my external, and play with Showtime anyway on my CEX too.

@carldenning got Showtime working on 4.11 DEX. Check it out here.

@playerkp420

I don't have a problem getting Showtime to work on DEX and/or playing ripped files etc. and that's fine.

Getting "native" playback from disc is the hard part.

Using the ps3's own files will be practically impossible without keys as the files don't exist in the firmware (unless you use 3.55 but that has older AACS keys).

However, all the files needed for playback are in OFW.

This option is probably out of scope for the biggest majority of users (myself included) to achieve so that leaves us with one other option which is Homebrew.

A player should be able to be coded using open source libraries that can aide with playback from disc.

If these libraries can be incorporated into existing homebrew such as Showtime or Multiman, it could also mean updateable AACS keys as well so newer blurays can be played on 3.55 (CEX as well as DEX).

Not gonna be easy though!
