Imagine a Dropbox App for PS3 CFW Users. It will be our very own cloud save app.

I would like to talk about a PS3 Dropbox App Idea. Actually I have been thinking a lot on how it might work. I think it will turn out to be an interesting application. Sony officially has cloud save/backup option in XMB for PSN plus users. We could have something similar!

All user SAVE DATA are stored in "dev_hdd0/home/0000000X/savedata" You could say that we could backup the folder manually via FTP. Why not have an app to do it automatically to Dropbox. A user could key in their dropbox credentials in the app's settings. There could be a sync now button. The app will create a folder in Dropbox. A progress bar shows %. Once done. All files from "dev_hdd0/home/0000000X/savedata" are backup! Users could do this after every game sessions. This way, their saves are always backuped!

To go even further, you could back up "xRegistry.sys" file too. In an event of HDD fail. All is not lost. A User could swap a new HDD, install the app, sync down from Dropbox. Technically it will replace "dev_hdd0/home". Boot PS3 to Recovery Menu. Select Rebuild Database. All saves should still be intact. What do you think?

If any PS3 Homebrew Developer made this possible it will be awesome!

Just thought about this! Think about the possibilities!
1. Sharing of save game data will be even more convenient. Using dropbox we could share the folder easily!

2. Some expert/genius could setup a cloud based website where it pulls data from the dropbox folder. That website could display all the save folders, favourites of friends's save games. There could be a option where you could HEX edit the .sfo for resigning.

3. The PS3 Dropbox App could pull the resigned saves in its own App folder. When you launch the app, there could be a MM style layout. Left-side will be from dropbox. Right-side will be resigned Saves. User could have an option to copy resigned save to "dev_hdd0/home/0000000X/savedata"

4. Reduce the process of plugin-in and plugin-out of USB drives. Protects your USB ports!

5. With the release of Game Genie for PS3, this app will be a perfect companion!

Nice idea, there's a script we could use to do it maybe via an app on the XMB (which would load into petitboot, run the script, then exit). Could be very handy!

It will much better and user friendly if it was a standalone app.

I believe @deank could develop this but I think he is devoted to mM. Which is amazing.

Are developers (Andreas Öman & Mattias Wadman) of Showtime members of PS3Hax? If they are they could help develop it!

No one has to host anything. Dropbox's 2GB Free account is more than enough.
