I only have ps3 cecha01 models including a Brand new unused one exactly because it's the best ps3 feature wise. i have also heard of slims with ylods
I'm currently getting a second hand one reballed exactly because of the lead free sodder. it has no ylod while in my care. I can't say anything about the previous owners. Endless electronics(ps3 repair specialist) uses artic silver 2(ceramic based or something) because it doesn't dry out instead of artic silver mx-4 anyone have thoughts about that?

Mx 4 has a life expectancy of 8 years. That I plenty of time. I would recommend opening the ps3 up at least every 2 years if not sooner just to do a thorough cleaning. If you don't do that, then at least blow it out often. When you open it up, I would reapply the mx 4 so, it doesn't really matter about the 8 life. If you never replaced it forthe 8 years, it would be fine. And is non conductive and has no cure time. Big fan

By the way, I have a checha01 getting reballed as we speak, and I have 3 more in the basement. One needs a rsx chip, and the others need reballed. I plan on fixing them all.

i can't find a proper thermal conductivity specification of th Céramique™ 2
to compare it with MX-4. i Don't open my ps3's myself to scared to. i do vacume the ventilation holes and keep it as dust free as i can. I can hear the plastic "pop"as i turn it on nowadays so i think it's time for reapplying the cxooling paste, however mine is in such a good condition asticly that it looks brand new i'm too scared to have it shipped so i bought a second hand one recently to have it reballed and cooling paste/pads reapplied also having it's fan upgraded to 19 bladed one and cleaned out. i just hope the mo-board hasn't been ameturely repaired of ylods in the past.. the heatgun fix

Like I said I have 4 or 5 checha01 units and everyone of them has the 19 blade fan already in them. I'm not sure if they all came stock with 19 blade fan, but 2 of them had never been opened before me and they had them. Opening up the ps3 is scary the first time, but it is really easy. And if you do it all yourself, then you can be sure that it was takin good care of and everything was done the way it is suppose to be done. If you don't want to do any ofit yourself, then make sure you use a well respected person to do it for you.

Wrong way round, it's MX that is ceramic based.

It's all marketing hype and gibberish at the end of the day.

"branded" thermal compound will all give or take a 1-2c give the same results and all will dry out after so many years with performance gradually deteriorating. I would expect any product that makes use of thermal compound to stop working long before the thermal compound drying up becoming an issue.
