Ps3 is stuck in "Tristate Mode"???
Hello all.
I have a ps3 slim that somehow got stuck in "Tristate Mode" after trying to solder a teensy to it. I asked judges about this and he said that the tristate pin must be grounded still But I have removed the teensy and the wires from the ps3 mobo. My e3 flasher can read and write to my ps3 and I'm fairly certain I have unbricked it but it still did not exit tristate mode. What can I do to resolve this? |

take a close look at all the test points and ensure they are all as free from solder as possible. then test the tristate point and see if it is actually grounded. it may be a broken point else where. ie i had a hairline break on data test point 13 on a DYN-001 board that acted like the tristate was still grounded after i had removed the wires. it took a lot of tracing of the points with a multimeter untill i found it. its just a thought but maybe you have the same with one of yours |

I have two cfw ps3's and each of them has a testpoint missing. They bolth halt with nothing soldered to the ps3.
So with the solder pads missing these ps3's are pretty much trash right. |

anyway where on the same page now ![]() its not all lost you need to trace back the trace lines from the missing test points until you find somewhere you can solder to. the test points have 2 trace lines so with the point missing you have actually cut the line. i found it best to take a few close pics then transfer them to the pc and zoom in (it will take a few pics untill you get a close enough shot without the pic being fuzzy. then you can open the pic on your pc and trace it from there. then you need a thin enough wire to do the repair. i found cheep earphones had thin enough wires to do this but trace each trace line a few times to ensure you havent suddenly followed the wrong trace line halfway through. there thin and they do group together. plus your eyes hurt after awhile lol let us know here how you get on & put an @ before my name ( @baileyscream ) so i know you have replied good luck

I am pretty sure I did when I bricked the first ps3 shortly before norway was released.
After I soldered up the teensy and I found I could dump my flash but not write to it because judges did not know about samsung flash. By the time judges had figured out the samsung issue I had been trying everything including resoldering the teensy to the ps3 and I ended up breaking off pad A8. I asked judges about this and he said my ps3 could still be restored with an e3 flasher. He said nothing about soldering 2 traces together. All this happened back around when the first 3.55 downgrade came out. Since judges basically said back then that a missing testpoint will not affect the operation of the system, last month after bricking from dex to cex I decided to again try to solder a teensy to the ps3 I bought to replace the old one even though I knew I would most likely not do it right. I never would have tried soldering a teensy to the second ps3 after the glorious fail I had the last time but I remembered judges saying missing testpoint will not affect the operation of the system. I tried to be careful you know, I did not want to break off pad A7, but that is what happened. I guess I just suck at soldering. Anyway I wasn't that worried about it because judges, a guy who built a nor flasher, told me that a missing testpoint doesn't matter, now it turns out they do. Had I known that a month ago I would have waited untill I got my e3flasher and would have unbricked the ps3 yesterday. I can't mess with the traces, man. I don't have the tools or the technique. Thanks for explaining what is wrong with my ps3's

If the missing point only has one trace coming off, your good to go. But if the missing point has 2 traces coming off, well then you need to patch it. I lost the oe pad the d14 pad and a0 and a2 pads. The d14 and oe pads need fixed but the a0 and a2 pads did not.
