Who cares how the loading screens look?
Gameplay over graphics everyday of the week ! Besides, if the ingame graphics are good then maybe they made the loading screens on purpose bad since they know how to make good graphics (haven't seen or played the game though but I did like previous instalments of lego games) |

Graphics add a level of immersion that enhance the gameplay experience. If I'm not immersed in an extremely detailed world such as Skyrim, it hurts the gameplay. Imagine Skyrim looking like Super Mario 64. I couldn't play it because I wouldn't believe it. It would ruin the entire feel of the game. Sure, it has good gameplay but why does that matter if I'm not even immersed in the experience. Graphics matter just as much as gameplay does. EDIT: I'm not saying that every game has to look like Crysis 2 on maximum settings with hi-res textures on the DX11 patch, but I'm saying for any particular art-style the developer chooses to base their game on, they need to try their hardest to PERFECT THAT ART-STYLE.

If you take Crysis 2 for instance. I agree with you that it looks beautiful but since I don't like FPS shooter games (anymore, did use to play a lot of Unreal tournament classic) I'll never play it, no matter how good it looks. Also, games with good gameplay but bad graphics can still be successful, look at minecraft for instance (which reached 20 million players). Even a 10 year old game like World of Warcraft still does do better then most of its (paid) competition even though their graphics are worse then the competition. All in all it's a matter of preference. For me, gameplay over graphics is important and that's why I still like to play retro games with an emulator or turn on my old C64 for old time sake (but it could be nostalgia as well :D) Last edited by Twinkeltoe; 08-18-2012 at 04:34 AM. |

while some look fugly, like torn paper, the same style as Monty Python is using, it could be cool for some project, but it looks totally displaced in the Lego game.

.Graphics is part of the experience so in turn part of the game, so stating that a game is bad because of the graphics at least in my opinion is a valid reason. Although I would be a hypocrite as I can remember playing games with horrible graphics but would still recommend them but with that said the graphics for those games fit the type and genre of the game perfectly where as something like FF7 where the story and genre are just demanding good graphics. PS: For first person shooters it really does matter to have better graphics, I've tested this personally with friends at a lan party lol.

Quality wise I would say that CRTs are still number one. I remember searching for an HD wide/flat screen CRT monitor, I could only find used/broken ones and the new ones were kinda expensive. I guess we are stuck with LCDs these days. Although I wished displays had built in processing, with enhancements like filters etc, that would have been nice for old consoles like PS1 to look a bit better on HD displays imo.
