Mine died after some COD MW2 like about a year ago I think. I still miss mine, Now I'm stuck borrowing a friends (slim).

PS: If flash really is wiped then a flasher will do you no good without a proper backup.

A reball might fix it, or if you just want to get your things off it, maybe a reflow and luck might work long enough for you to get your things off it.

BTW there is now a ps3 HDD decryption tool apparently, maybe that will work (havent tried myself) but im guessing it will need some perconsole info that is in flash for the tool to work.

Ok after3 dissembles and reassemble i found the problem by chance. It all started with the pc and the samsung syncmaster monitor hdmi port.

I plugged the hdmi from the monitor into the pc and got a freakin huge shock, like a ground type of shock.
The monitor was always connected to the ps3 but never had huge amounts of voltage feeding via the samsung.

I checked the board and i can see that my rsx chip is finished. There should be low forward voltage running from ps3 output.Anyway its beyond repair.

I am so sad as its gonna take me a while to find a decent slim that has 3.55 firmware on it.Goodbye hombre world.I am truly gonna miss showtime and MMos

Me and my brother share the same ps3. He always wants to play PS2 games, so he installs ordinary rebug. I almost always want Linux so I overwrite rebug with rebug otheros++.

One time I took the console away from him because he really needed to lay off of it and revise. When I turned it on after taking it away from him, the red light was blinking at boot and the console was beeping. I tried a combo of unplugging and going to recovery mode. Worked for me.
