I believe multiman can convert and play it from AVCHD or something like this, not sure about BDMV.

I just downloaded the 720p rip as MP4 but I'm going to get it on the 19th/09 when it comes out in the UK

use Tsmuxer it's made for the ps3 and can handle bluray/avchd , you can watch the movie from an usb stick in avchd format and it also can split into 4GB files, and you can have subtitles.

i think my best bet is to convert it into high quality mkv file and then watch it on ps3 using showtime..

If you use My MP4box you can play them directly on the XMB video section

You need 2 streams vid/audio (EAC2AC3 if necessary).

MKV is just a container, I always rip to 720p AC3 in MP4 container to play without any needed apps.

PS3 plays .mt2s files natively as long as they are decrypted. This shouldn't be an issue as you already have the BD backup on your PC so it has already been decrypted.

You should be able to transfer the whole folder structure to your ps3 and play with multiman.

I haven't tried this as I usually use a BD-RE for full rips.

Otherwise, I generally stream (via wired connection, wi-fi sucks!)

That's not a bluray backup.

I thought you meant from BD-R after you run the bluray folder you have ripped through BD-Rebuilder or similar.

To that, the answer would be YES.

...

Providing the m2ts in the bluray folder are ONE file and it's not a split over a load of them then you can just load the m2ts in mkvtoolnix and save as an MKV after deselecting any streams you don't need.

MKV IS A CONTAINER!!! - Not a compression method.
